Casa de Doyel is 2-stories and Approx. 3,400 SF.

Unfortunately this house isn’t pre-wired with Cat-5 Ethernet.

When we bought the house and signed up for internet service, they ran one cable from my attic to my home office where my router resides.

Currently we have 400mbps internet thru Spectrum.

I have an Orbi mesh system in ROUTER mode with 2 satellites in Daisy-Chain mode (due to where I am forced to locate the main Router/Orbi in the house).

In my office I easily get 300-400mbps wireless which is perfectly fine for my needs.

Sat 1 I get 100-130.

Sat 2 I get 80-110.

Am I just screwed here? I don’t see any way to get wired back haul with my satellites since this house isn’t pre-wired.

I just wish I got the same 300-400 speeds throughout the entire home...

Not an expert by any means, but I have the exact same system in my house. Only 2,200 square feet but I extend to throughout the entire property (mainly a shed that's 150' from the house).

I have no issues, but I also user router mode vs bridge mode. Not sure if that's any help?

You can wire a house after id you really want hardline connections. They run it through the attic, drop down the walls (or crawlspace ans up the walls). Put a cut in box in and fish the wire down the wall. Happens all the time in remodels.


I dont know anything about wifi but thought id add that if you are set on hard wiring it is possible.

^^^^ That's a big house, if I were there awhile, I'd look into installing the wired backhaul.

The good news is the outlets are there, there’s just no wire running to it.

Might not be a bad idea to just have an electrician come and run wire to a couple of spots.

My house was built in the early 40s. I ran CAT 5 through the basement and up through electric outlets to 5 different locations. Some are 70+ feet from my router.

I just use Orbi as my wifi needs are very simple. Surprised it's not working out for you, but maybe your walls are solid steel, haha.

If no other solutions, you could wait to see if WiFi 6e solves any of your problems. Due in the next year or two, but will set you back a grand for a router and 2 satellites.

Mrs. Fish is in telecom/IT. We are hardwired to both of our desks in the office, to the primary streaming TV and to two commercial access points (the frisbee-sized disks you'll see in coffee shops).

Seconded. I ran mine from the basement where my network gear is up to the main and second floor through an air return (using shielded plenum-rated cable). Then I just have a good wireless AP on each floor. I use Ubiquiti UniFi gear as mentioned somewhere above.

Talking low volt data lines or power?

Id do either, romex is simple. But anyone can do low volt,no real danger there

I took the question to just mean CAT-5.

We have a couple PoE injectors, also, but that's also plug-and-play.
