I think all we are looking for is help.

Jalen Suggs is obviously a silver bullet. I think even a Mac McClung type could also be. But then work your way down from there, and I think there are a lot of guys that could help.

Nothing against that mindset of filling your roster with four or five OAD because we all know that doesn't work but this year, while weird also shows that filling your roster full of good to average talent won't cut it either.

Crazy to think how Zag got Suggs and by all counts is inline to get Chet.
yeah.

I mean, I guess the Zags are hot, and look as good as anyone right now to get a ring if you're OAD.

but also, if I consider myself high profile, I just dunno if I wanna spend 3 months of my season playing unranked midmajors on a regional network with an 11pm EST tipoff.

i don’t think it needs to be a senior, necessarily

a transfer in the mold of Malik Newman, imo, would serve this team well

I dig the optimism.

but I'm concerned it could just be a double-edged sword.

I can just see the meltdown threads already. "Why did we ever think bringing this guy in was the solution, we woulda been better off hanging onto Marcus!"

ETA or a moot point. So we bring in some senior transfer who plays like 9 mpg. allsome.

A buried storyline of this season is that our possible OAD guard again didn't completely deliver. Yeah, I know he had the injuries, but I hate that pattern.
Agreed. I like the potential that BT provides but he doesn't look like a 'five star' instant impact guy to me. Maybe it is the injuries but his jump shot has gone from 'kinda weird' to flat out awful and to many times I see him falling down or just unable to turn the corner.

I've heard from at least one person who has mentioned that other coaches are telling elite, OAD type guards that Self won't use you right and that his offense is swayed towards BIGs first.

His track record with three or four year guards is undefeated but outside of Dot playing his freshman, because well he was the only option Self is on shaky ground at best with those type of 'OAD elite guards'.

As PhD said, you bring him in and play the best of Transfer, BT, or Harris. I don't see any downsides.

If MG returns, it will be to play PG. Just seems hard to see that scenario.

I think it is pretty silly, I'd definitely want to go to KU and play for Self as a PG.

I would not be as wild about it if I were an NBA off-guard or wing.

is MG at PG a definite thing?

would he not wanna go back to being the off-the-ball slasher and defensive specialist role he was otherwise really good in?

why would an off-guard or wing not wanna play for Self?

cuz they wouldn't wanna ride pine while Och and Haunk brick open shots?

I remember when Andrew Wiggins visited AFH, Self was running all sorts of back door lob plays (to BMac, Travis, The 'Fro), so as to showcase what his offense can do for an NBA off-guard or wing...

I think that kills him playing ball professionally if he and the program admit that he can't play PG. I would think both sides would just be ready to move on at that point.

perhaps so.

but I dunno if either is expecting Marcus to be an NBA pg.

is "but he played more off the ball his 5 year in college" really so damning toward his prospects in, say, Israeli league or whatever?

Just depends on how his camp takes it. Do both sides actually want a 5th season?

I would personally want it but would want a different or tweaked role.

I'm skeptical that the sides that matter want it.

If you believe the pressers Self loves MG and unless something drastic happens in the next couple of months to soil that I would have to expect that Self would want him back.

NBA 'ready' type PG should be drooling at the mouth to come here. Self, would or should hand you the keys. NBA 'ready' type wing I would agree about second thoughts, which this team also needs because unless Braun or Och take huge steps this team will also lack next year.

I do think about DeAaron Fox mentioning not wanting to go to Kansas because he would have to sit behind upperclassmen. We have all seen, whether right or not that Self is loyal to his guys and that he is in the business of winning games and not bending over backwards for OAD types.

And I would 117% rather have Frank Mason's 2017 than De'Aaron Fox's 2017.

Now if Fox were a senior in HS right now, the recruiting pitch would be way different.

Can't forget about the scholly limits still in play. We have 12 scholly guys now. Have 2 and possibly 3 coming in to Lawrence next year. Makes me think that MG, Mitch and Tristan are probably gone.

I really, really hope Tristan stays. I would like to make a good track record of putting those type of guys into the league.

Mitch prob stays just cuz he's such a KU fanboy.

Because of that, I'm happy if he does, but also don't think that's any reason to give him more than mop up minutes. Or, he could use that 6th year to go start at a mid major?

Tristan does just ooze potential. How's he project in our system, though? Teeny ball 5? Is Self gonna take minutes from Jalen to give to him?

and I like Marcus, and think he's great in the right role, but yeah, him at pg also seems correlated with our stuck-in-mud offense.
