the publisher has halted the production of like a half dozen titles because demand for them has plummeted (due to their fucked up portrayal of minority groups)...this is exactly the way free market capitalism is supposed to work, right?

The decision to stop publishing those 6 Dr. Seuss books was made by the company that owns them, not a banning by the government.

When you say "banning books" it suggests that the government is censoring publication or sale of a book...not that a publisher decided to stop publishing a book.

I honestly haven't much time thinking about banning books since high school.

Isn't there a fundamental difference between "not teaching it in public schools" and "banning"? If the line for "banning" is that it is not in public school curriculum...that's a lot of things!

There's plenty of normal (at the time) things from back in the 1920's-1950's when those things were done that are now rightly considered racist. And it is the keepers of the authors works who are deciding to no longer publish those works, not some outside group. So good for them for recognizing where that work fits in today's world.
