Yeah the presser yesterday was the final straw.

I see it differently; I think he was made to take the incoming fire yesterday, before being shown the door himself.

No, he would've used less inclusive words, or stated he wasn't there to talk about his future, but there to talk about the future of the football program. He was lambasted so bad that it forced the university's hand. He probably wasn't on stable ground, but that trainwreck was the last straw. An interim AD could've easily came out and announced that Long was also gone, using Long as the punching bag. Now the chancellor or an interim AD has to have a presser and explain why Long is gone.
