He never did. It's another dishonest post by lobster.

He did say we should give all the N95 masks to healthcare workers - True.
He also said masks give people a false sense of security - probably also true, but not a good reason not to wear one.
He also said they're ineffective if worn improperly - True.
He said early on that we didn't need to wear masks, and then later said we should when numbers increased.

If you want to be critical of Fauci and say he was late in calling for mask wearing, I think that's fair. But even early on, even when preserving N95s, he was among the first to say scarves or face coverings are a good idea.

The virus is spread through droplets of moisture when people talk, sneeze, cough, breath. Masks reduce the amount of that, particularly the larger sized droplets, and reduce how far they travel. Not sure how anyone could argue that they don't work or that they don't work both for the wearer and others. I mean, we can quarrel over how well they work, they certainly aren't 100% effective, but, all the evidence suggests they have a positive impact.

I would expect it has to do with velocity, in a couple different ways. Cloth masks don't have anywhere near perfect seals, so inhaling (low velocity) means you're drawing in air that isn't going through the mask. So there's an inbound issue.

Outbound, particularly when speaking, the velocity you're expelling air forces it through the mask, as opposed to around, "catching" larger droplets and slowing down smaller ones, such that they don't reach someone else.

Who the hell knows. Just spitballing.

No, I think you are exactly right.

And I do think it offers more protection for others than the person wearing it.

But it also definitely does protect the person wearing it...anything that reduces the size and number of droplets does. Wind is really good at it, for example. Multiple layers and higher thread counts are better...

I just don't like the idea that it doesn't offer protection to the wearer. We're talking about percentages of reduction, and it's pretty clear that there is a positive reduction for both the wearer and the individuals near the wearer.

Which is why everyone should wear a mask. None of us knows for sure that we don't have it (save a couple scenarios). So if I wear one and you wear one, we're both protecting each other and ourselves.

A seat belt protects the person who wears it, but it also keeps the driver in the driver seat so he can still grab the wheel and press the brake. So it protects people outside the car as well as inside it. If a safety precaution protects in more ways than one, we should highlight all the ways it works, rather than negating one because another occurs more often.

Everything you’re saying makes sense.

And lord knows that, on masks and vaccines, well, actually isn’t very productive as far as public confidence goes.

One confounding factor with masks - I would guess that, socially, people who are inclined to follow rules tend to hang out around other people who are inclined to follow rules. So there would be some noise based on that, I’d think.

I was just told that my somewhat adverse reaction to the first Moderna injection could be because I had already been infected with Covid but was asymptomatic. Has anybody read this new study?

Not sure if it made any difference but my mother was told to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen (not sure which one), vitamin C (orange juice), and zinc BEFORE her injections. I was a bit leery - but hopeful.
She had ZERO side effects other than a slightly sore arm.
