The charge call is beyond out of control in the college game.

Abolish it. Only offensive foul with ball is a push off or excessive contact. A defender basically needs to just be standing there for a foul. Can't slide in or have any movement for it to be a foul.

Some of it really is human nature. If refs had to do a difficult and/or embarrassing gesture to call a charge, I honestly think the calls would go down.


But, yes, I do think this level of basketball has evolved athletically that the game doesn't actually need the secondary charge call. Either no call or defensive foul. Primary defenders should always be allowed to draw offensive fouls, though.
