Guitar

Post by ousdahl »

Anyone play? Or tried to?

I grew up playing in high school, covering Nirvana tunes and stuff. Now, it was my new year’s resolution, and have at least practiced more days than not since.

I wouldn’t say I’m good, but I can at least strum through a few dead tunes well enough to get in grandma’s pants.

They’re such cool instruments, but such difficult instruments to play well. But that’s the fun of it!

Guitars in particular are among those few inanimate objects that somehow have a personality despite that.

Also crazy that electric guitar tech has hardly changed at all since the 50s.

Anywho so guitars!

Anything more than four strings is a waste of materials.

When I was a little kid I fucked with the equalizers on all the family stereos and stuff.

My parents would ask, why do you always turn the bass all the way up?

I’d reply, actually it’s pronounced bass, and cuz they’re my favorite fish.

I've got Gibson semi-hollow body electric guitar that is cherry red that I can play a few notes on. It's left handed. It's pretty much just a conversation piece now, I occasionally mess around with it or watch a few videos. I just never committed to it, maybe I'll pic it up again.

All the way.

I’d get the most incredulous looks, that only got even more incredulouser when I suggested, why not just make 10 louder?

I played in college, finally picked it up again a couple years ago. I love it, my favorite thing is sitting on the porch with a beer, my dog, and my guitar.

Look up Rob Swift on YouTube, he's got videos for a range of levels, and goes pretty nice and slow.

Start growing the nails on your right hand (except the pinky)(and assuming you're right handed)

What Dead songs are you already playing? Uncle John's Band and Friend of the Devil?

Cryptical Envelopment/The Other One on this album was my inspiration to start playing

I own two guitars. Neither of which I can play other than maybe a song or two if I really put my mind and effort to it.
I am confident I am the only person in the world who owns two guitars - one autographed by Chris Cornell and one autographed by Snoop Dog.
It's a long story.

The hardest part for me is sitting down and just studying a song. Like practice it over and over until it all sounds right.

I’ll like, kind of get it, then bust into another song just cuz. Pretty sure it’s ADD or something, but something I’m trying to treat holistically, by learning to sit my ass down and practice guitar, rather than just get tweaked out on adderral or whatever about it.

What, like guitar is hard?

jk LOL but for real, I wish. I can kind of get through the main riffs and stuff, but I wouldn’t exactly say I’m tour ready...yet.

I already had some ability just from having a guitar around in high school, and have been practicing more days than not since new year. At least a few minutes, maybe a couple hours on a good day

It's not just you, I and many others are the same. Learning is hard and full of failures, so the brain tries to avoid it. Playing something you are good at, especially if it was difficult to learn, gives you a squirt of Dopamine, and your brain craves that.
