That's a great way to motivate to get the vaccine.

The people reporting skepticism about the vaccine are not doing so because the President of the United States continues to wear a mask, often around those who may not be vaccinated. He is the leader of the free world, a world that remains largely unvaccinated/deeply fearful of the virus. In contrast to the previous four years, I welcome extra if unnecessary precautions by someone so important here and globally.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:09 amI'll let MICH answer for himself on that one, but I do think it's very unhelpful to the vaccination efforts to continue performative, unnecessary masking.hasbeen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:21 amDid you support the proposed abduction of your governor?MICHHAWK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:18 am What message is uncle joe sending when he is standing in a field, all alone, wearing a mask, when fully vaccinated?

The issues are deep-seated and will never be resolved fully, and will only ever diminish if/when businesses step up and require vaccinations. Joe Biden walking around maskless is not going to convince MICH and those like him to scramble for a vaccine. Pretending it will is The West Wing thinking which is absolutely poisonous and not based in the world we actually live in.
When I'm fully vaccinated, I will only wear a mask in a crowded, public place (while required) or when I don't feel well. But that is a personal decision. I've seen a few of your other posts and for the life of me I do not understand why a guy wearing a mask mowing his lawn is such a problem to you. Does he scold you for not doing that? If not, who cares?

I guess we're coming at this from different directions; I think my neighbor is being harmlessly silly. I think the messaging needs to be that vaccines simply are the ticket to a return to normalcy. Yes, including as to masking.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Eh, I feel like it's a "If I can do it in a low risk area, you can do it in a high risk area." Like Jarrod Dyson wearing masks in right. He doesn't need to, but man, if he can make an outfield assist at second to catch the lead runner on a single with a mask on, you can fucking mask up while loading up your cart with Tostinos pizzas.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:09 amI'll let MICH answer for himself on that one, but I do think it's very unhelpful to the vaccination efforts to continue performative, unnecessary masking.hasbeen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:21 amDid you support the proposed abduction of your governor?MICHHAWK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:18 am What message is uncle joe sending when he is standing in a field, all alone, wearing a mask, when fully vaccinated?

I think everyone is kind of right, here.
But, to hasbeen's point, this is why I applaud the Buffalo Bills. If you want an idiot to do what's best for everyone and get the vax, only way is to take away football.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I think that has been the message. Biden's Chief of Staff emphasizes it every time I hear him talk. But just because that's the correct message doesn't mean it's an effective message. A significant chunk of the Republican Party thinks Dem elites are child molesters -- are they going to listen to Joe Biden when he talks up the importance of vaccines?
Now, if we want to talk about the horrendous messaging from public health officials and politicians from both parties over the last year? I'm in. There was far too much discussion of what people couldn't do and not near enough discussion of what was safe, i.e. limiting the number of people at your gathering and keeping it outside. Also, way too much beach scolding.
But I'm not with you folks on the masks stuff -- they are a good thing to emphasize in crowded places pandemic or not. That said, I'm well aware the US isn't going to suddenly turn culturally to align with Asian countries on them.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
One other thing, if we imagine a world where Joe Biden walks around maskless and says "I'm able to do this because I'm vaccinated," do we really think this erodes vaccine skepticism? I don't. I think MICH-types would say, "The President isn't wearing a mask, I guess the pandemic is over!" Because they aren't fucking good-faith actors, they are lunatics who will need to be compelled to vaccinate (by non-governmental entities).

For sure. Once it became clear that outdoor activities were generally safe, and that there was almost zero risk of fomite transmission, the messaging really needed to be overhauled.hasbeen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:17 pm I think that has been the message. But a publicly-funded ad campaign with celebrity/athlete endorsements would absolutely move the needle.
And, nope, didn't mean to do that.

At worst, during flu season.
I hope this also moves us away from the boomer philosophy of toughen up and work through your head cold 8+ hours in a physical office.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I read that the feds conducted a study to find the best way to convince skeptics and it was seeing friends get the vaccine or having it recommended by their doctor. But I think this was limited to skeptics who could be potentially moved, i.e. they're skeptical because of how fast the vaccine was developed.
Typing that reminds me that my father-in-law's doctor told him that COVID is a hoax. We are fucking screwed.

Early surveys suggested that on top of the usual suspects, African-American and Hispanic populations were not pro-vax. And after Tuskegee, I get it.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:23 pmI agree that messaging through Biden is probably a lost cause.hasbeen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:19 pm One other thing, if we imagine a world where Joe Biden walks around maskless and says "I'm able to do this because I'm vaccinated," do we really think this erodes vaccine skepticism? Which Biden will mandate.
Because Biden is a mindless puppet of the radical left wing.
And the radical left wing wants to control movement.
Tell me: who's the one being controlled, here?

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Some doctors in my area are not fans of masks and whatnot. Surprising a bit. They think Covid is legit, just don't think masks are that necessary considering the rate is so low or whatever.
But they've all been vaccinated, so I'm sure they're frustrated.

By May 30th any person that wants to will have had their first dose. By June 30th any person that wants to will be fully vaccinated. By July 1st MICHHAWKS mask collection will be smoldering in his firepit while I makeout with the next door neighbor. .
