ousdahl wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 2:45 pm Just pass a law that every gun owner must sign something that says, “I know and acknowledge that owning, possessing, shooting, or otherwise nerding out about my gun will in no way shape or form increase the size of my penis.”
Liability insurance, for each gun, paid for at the point of sale, with yearly registration and proof of insurance would definitely put a damper on the nationwide insane compulsion to purchase them. I mean, we all have to have liability insurance on our cars and they're not even made for killing.
Insurance never fixes anything. Fuck those companies. The last thing we need is more insurance. It just makes things more expensive.

We need to make all gun sales, both public and private, go through a true background check.

We need a common database that is checked in that background check and we need all crimes, especially those of a violent or threatening manner, to be required to report to that database.

We need to identify as many mental health red flags as possible, assign them a period of length/expiration date and the database needs to be able to show that there is a red flag in place until said date. It cannot contain any medical information other than the red flag.

We need a national database of guns by serial number that states who is the registered owner of that gun. Any gun found to not be registered should be confiscated and destroyed.

We need federal and state law enforcement to be more proactive in rooting out illegal guns and gun sales.

We need federal law enforcement assigned to gang crimes as well as the ATF to do better at reducing the flow of illegal guns into our communities.

Start regulating and controlling the sale of ammunition. The Second Amendment says nothing about ammunition. Only arms. Arms are not ammunition. F@&$cv the Originalists. Do to ammunition what they did to cigarettes. Make it so expensive that it would seriously set someone back. 7,000,000% tax. Exempt if you buy and use at the range, but you carry out you pay the price.

I think the biggest obstacle is just getting the gun nuts to even admit there’s a gun problem.

The next obstacle after that is likely getting the gun nuts to concede the best solution to address the gun problem is not more guns.

Bear in mind, a certain critical mass of Mericans think the biggest issue with guns is any infringement upon mah rights. For them it’s zero-sum, and they aren’t prepared to concede a thing.

The gun nuts will by definition never recognize the problem. Any changes will cause them additional hassle personally, which as we have seen is true measure of whether or not a Republican will support something.

The thing is: Gun distributors love it when a Democrat is President. When it looked like Hillary was going to win, a friend of mine in Las Vegas was printing money. When Trump was elected, his sales dropped nearly 40 percent.

Yes, just like immigration and other issues there are simple solutions that have wide support, regardless of political affiliation. However, it’s in the best interest of the powerful to keep them unsolved so that they can remain in power by scaring the extremes

Yea. Pretty sure there’s a lot of data out there indicating racial disparity among law enforcement.

And even that communities of color don’t necessarily commit more crimes, so much as those communities are policed more aggressively

This is a recording:
Another mass shooting, this has to stop, it’s a national embarrassment.

Suggestion; just keep flags at half mast until it stops.

all races have interactions with cops

in those interactions where cops are involved...

...Native Americans were killed by police at a rate three times that of white people (77 total killed). Black people were killed at 2.6 times the rate of white people (1,265 total killed); and Hispanics were killed at nearly 1.3 times the rate of white people (889 total killed). Among unarmed victims, Black people were killed at three times the rate (218 total killed), and Hispanics at 1.45 times the rate of white people (146 total killed)....

you said maaaaybe they were committing more crimes

people who didn’t commit crimes weren’t even part of the numbers. those statistics were from all people who had ALREADY committed crimes.

you’re either ignorant, are not very smart
