I voted Republican nearly up and down the ballot every election until 2016. I hope to have a difficult choice to make at some future point in my life. But so long as the Republican party is anti-science, anti-globalism, anti-Black, and so on, my vote is not on the table.

Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
I went on a similar journey before McVeigh and feared the blackness ahead for the party. It went way crazy. Kansas was a redoubt of moderation until then. Libertarian radicalization represented by the Kochs killed the party.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 9:49 amI voted Republican nearly up and down the ballot every election until 2016. Honest question here. Why did it take so long (i.e 2016) to see this?jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 9:49 amI voted Republican nearly up and down the ballot every election until 2016. Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
it was fairly obvious to me that as soon as Obama was elected, the pubs had little other than being anti-Obama and anti-liberal
Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
Same here. I liked (and supported) Bush, but once Obama was elected, the Republican Party turned into the party of hate.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:13 am it was fairly obvious to me that as soon as Obama was elected, the pubs had little other than being anti-Obama and anti-liberal

For me, part of it is that family I look up to always leaned pretty hard over that way and it just takes some time to become your own person. Part of it is that I grew up in Southern California, and had a strong negative reaction to the true hippy libsters. Then in law school, which tends to be a super-liberal place generally (and where I went certainly was), I often found myself taking the conservative side in debates etc.
So I was just blind to how I'd been cooked by Fox, like a frog. Fox (and the WSJ) just sort of got worse and worse over time, and I didn't see it because it was gradual.

Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
I dunno if it turned into it, or just put less and less effort into trying to pretend that hate wasn’t a big part of their brand all along?Cascadia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:16 amSame here. Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
Appreciate the candid response. I took a similar path other than the Southern California part, which may explain my earlier realization. I now live in a Liberal haven and often find myself clashing with the far left. I've stated before that I'm very much a moderate and wish the Republican Party could get their shit together in order to have a more balanced society. But, they've gone so far down the path of hate that I don't have much hope for the foreseeable future. I truly believe this country is going to stay blue for the next 20 years.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:18 amI'm sure that's personal to everyone.Cascadia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:10 amHonest question here. Well, put differently, after Obama was elected the Republican Party decided to openly expose all of their hate.ousdahl wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:24 amI dunno if it turned into it, or just put less and less effort into trying to pretend that hate wasn’t a big part of their brand all along?Cascadia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:16 amSame here. Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
The GOP is doing its best to ensure this by allowing itself to be cleaved in two. It was already the less popular party by a significant margin, and losing even 5% of the base that remains would/will be disastrous.Cascadia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:25 amAppreciate the candid response. they’re letting the kooks...the gaetz’s, mtg’s, and gun nutz run the party
and folks like mitch don’t have enough sac to do anything about it
it fact, it seems like liz cheney is about the only one with a spine these days

Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
Not a chance. I bet the GOP takes control of both houses in the next cycle. If there's one thing you can count on from Dems it's fucking up a sure thing.Cascadia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:25 amAppreciate the candid response. Re: Kristi Noem (aka Sarah Palin)
You have a short, selective memory. Let me take you back 4 years. It's January 2017. The overwhelming narrative surrounding the democratic party was "oh my God what happened to us. This party is a national joke. This party is a disaster. We may never win another election again. This country will be red forever!"
Now you are sure you will never lose another another election. Problem with you gasbaggers is the highs are too high. And the lows are too low. You will grow up one day.

Trust me, I have no faith in the Democratic Party, but the GOP essentially being split is going to kill them in electionschiknbut wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 11:20 amNot a chance. "too old, too white, too male," and the solution to that was Trump.

what's the gop narrative now? Sit around stewing for 3 and a half more years til they can go all in on Trump again?
