Would you be on the Jury?
Re: Would you be on the Jury?
Glad to see a cop be held responsible for such an extreme callousness and depravity towards the community they served. Hopefully the next cop will give a few seconds of thought to what can be done to de-escalate the situation intead of relishing the technical right to escalate it to the next level.

Yes, hopefully this gives shitty police across the nation a bit of reality.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:26 pm Glad to see a cop be held responsible for such an extreme callousness and depravity towards the community they served. I'm just dumb in legalese and assumed if he got murder, the rest of the charges are irrelevant.vega wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:10 pmI think the fact it took about as much time as to eat a steak dinner to come to a verdict means it wasn't even close. I mean usually you have at least one or two that want to hold out for a bit just because, but this was a clear cut case.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:08 pm Surprised it was all 3. But it is the correct verdict.

No, you are proving the elements of each count.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:28 pmI'm just dumb in legalese and assumed if he got murder, the rest of the charges are irrelevant.vega wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:10 pmI think the fact it took about as much time as to eat a steak dinner to come to a verdict means it wasn't even close. So charge (1) you might need A, B, and C. Then charge (2), it's A, B, D. Then the most serious charge (3), it's A, B, C and D. You bring all three, because you want (3), but if you can't prove C, but you can show D, you can at least convict on (2).
If you can prove on A, B, C and D, you get all three, but you usually are sentenced concurrently if it's one action. So the max will likely be whatever (3) is. He could've been convicted on much more, but you don't want to muddy up the case too with extra charges. You want a clear cut case, so you charge on multiple counts, but not all the counts.

Re: Would you be on the Jury?
if only one of those cops had at any point even just suggested easing up, maybe they wouldn’t be facing charges themselves. Who knows, maybe Floyd would still be alive!
But not one of them had the thought, even once. Not even out of any CYA instinct. Not even out of basic humanity.

Re: Would you be on the Jury?
Oh shit, anyone looking for a job as the Raiders social media guy? Methinks an opening will be available tomorrow.
Re: Would you be on the Jury?
When you become that numbed to the people you serve then you should not have that job. The law enforcement system is full of people jaded by seeing the worst of us that it has affected how they treat the rest of us. It is a trained, ingrained callousness passed from generation to generation that rots our society from within.ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:50 pm if only one of those cops had at any point even just suggested easing up, maybe they wouldn’t be facing charges themselves. I wonder how much of it is jaded, and how much is just some tough guy egotism. Cuz it turns out, those sortsa guys are attracted to that kind of work.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 7:08 pmWhen you become that numbed to the people you serve then you should not have that job. If we can’t outright abolish the police, we need to abolish the police psyche. Protect and serve, say it over and over. No more make my day bullshit.
Cops should work as if there’s a teenage girl live streaming every shift.
Re: Would you be on the Jury?
Weren't a few of the other cops there when the incident occurred new to the force?twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 7:08 pmWhen you become that numbed to the people you serve then you should not have that job. Chauvin is just a POS shitty cop who is going to get what he deserves. It will hopefully make the other POS shitty cops out there think twice (no matter how small of a % of cops that is).
Re: Would you be on the Jury?
One thing I recall that I thought might have come up in the trial but never did:
The whole angle where Floyd and chauvin knew each other previously from both working as bouncers at the same bar or something?
Though I dunno what could have come from it, or if it would even be admissible.

Was that even true or just an internet rumor?ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 7:15 pm One thing I recall that I thought might have come up in the trial but never did:

Re: Would you be on the Jury?
POS shitty cop. Shitty as a piece of shit.
I try to stay away from the ACAB but here’s one angle I’ve heard:
Yes, all cops are bastards. Even the good ones. They all swear the same oath to uphold the same laws that comes from the same system. And until they make it a habit to speak up more when other cops are being bastards, then yup, acab.

Re: Would you be on the Jury?
As the verdict was being read, a 15 year old black girl was shot dead by Columbus OH PD.
Re: Would you be on the Jury?
Yes, one had only been on the job a matter of days as the next generation of cop and deferred to Chauvin's actions because he had been trained to.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 7:15 pmWeren't a few of the other cops there when the incident occurred new to the force?twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 7:08 pmWhen you become that numbed to the people you serve then you should not have that job. "At one point, Lane asked, "Should we roll him on his side?" Chauvin responded: "No, staying put where we got him." Lane then said, "I am worried about excited delirium or whatever," to which Chauvin said, "That's why we have him on his stomach.""
