The vast majority of us want no dead civilians and no dead cops.

Reality is a nasty place that neither ACAB nor Blue Lives Matter likes to acknowledge. Everything is "choose a side" and there are only two sides.

A lot of people are upset, you're not the only one.

I do think we are getting so numb to this, which is obviously a huge problem.

A. It is upsetting. I don't think anyone here is arguing that was the best outcome. It wasn't. But the officer was justified in using force.

B. I would really really hope my daughter wasn't attacking people with a knife.

Tremendously upsetting situation. The end result is sad. Some certain factors played into it all. And those situations left the officer no choice but to do what he deemed appropriate.

But in many cases, officer's actions do not matchup with the situation. This does not seem to be one of those cases.

(I wonder if the person who called the cops is glad they did)

That is a tough question.

Definitely a question that more people will ask in the future.

Right?

It goes back to the whole idea of building trust between cops and communities.

People should be able to call cops and hope it’ll result in fewer casualties, not more - even if someone is being a threat!

But on so many levels, it’s so tough. But this situation likely does more to diminish that trust, not build it.

(I wonder how often communities avoid calling cops...)

If I was being attacked with a deadly weapon in front of a cop, I'd want him/her to do whatever he/she could to protect me.

Not sure why you can only identify/empathize with the attacker in this situation.

But not when it’s a black teenager, and not when it’s a cop otherwise sworn to maintain peace.
What? This is blantatly wrong. You are not required to fire a warning shot at an attacking animal.....

Might have saved more lives for doing that, that's an unknown. That is what the cop will be telling himself every night when he lies awake.

There's another side to not stopping her from possibly killing someone else, which doesn't exactly build trust, either. That's a long conversation and problem.

If i call the cops i go inside my house. Its different attacking/defending from a defensive position inside the house. If on the street and being the aggressor with a weapon expect a differenr interaction with police.

My biggest thing I tried to figure out. Why stay outside and still provoke and deal with it. Go inside until police arrive.

But then again, 16 year olds think differently. And if there was an adult in the area, shame on them.

I just saw that thought too.

Apparently these were foster kids out fighting...where’s the adults responsible for them?

I think I’m thinking of a specific instance with the last grizzly in CO.

Authorities investigated cuz they’re endangered species or whatever and acted like the hunting guide should have known the difference, even though grizzlies are officially not even in the state.

As the guide was laying in his hospital bed recovering from maul wounds, feds read him his Miranda rights...
