Yes, it's an admittedly smart ass answer in response to this: "I think it’s fair to expect trained police officers to be able to fire a round, wait 1-2 seconds and then reassess." I just get sick of these nonsensical "fixes" that aren't given any thought at all.

Your statement was completely devoid of how it would play out in the exact situation we are discussing. To apply your logic, let's assume that the officer shot this girl once and then sat back to "assess" the situation.... how much of an "assessment" is being done in 1-2 seconds? It would probably take longer than 1-2 seconds for the girl's body to drop to the ground. The officer would still be behind the girl and would still have minimal sight lines to the victim of the assault. What true assessment could be made?

What have you accomplished other than to increase the likelihood of the victim being hurt or killed in an effort to reduce the likelihood of the assailant being hurt or killed? I get that in a perfect world that no one would ever be killed by a police officer but in an actual perfect world, no one would ever attack someone with a knife.

My buddy shot a cougar that charged his buddy while they were pheasant hunting last year. Nobody ever said anything about a warning shot....they said, great shot, you saved your friends life. They didnt let him keep the cat but who cares.
You’ve mentioned this story before. Can I ask for more details?

Did anyone investigate? If they were pheasant hunting, did he shoot it with bird shot, or some other weapon? Did any media pick up the story?
Yea they called ODFW (fish and game), they came out to investigate and review. They never moved the cat or anything and all was well. ODFW took the cat for testing. Yes 4 rounds of birdshot, 2 to the chest and 2 to the face. There was a 3rd guy with them that fired 1 of the rounds to the chest.

Most people here would've just SSS (shoot, shovel and shut up) and moved on with a similar end result but either way nobody is requiring or asking for a warning shot for an imminent threat.

This thread can’t keep up.

RIP Andrew Brown

Early reports say NC Cops were serving a search warrant and shot him multiple times as he tried to flee

Well, maybe eeeeever so slightly, the popular opinion is going slowly away from “he shoulda just complied” and more toward “cops shouldn’t be slaughtering civilians in the streets just for not complying”

...maybe?

Prob not. Sigh.

Though this body cam footage could sway a lot. Lots of details to fill in either way.

Unarmed.

Unclear whether Brown was the subject of the warrant.

So it sounds like cops show up to execute some search warrant, he’s just some random black dude who happens to be getting in his car, and they blast him for it?

If there’s more to the story, cops could go a long way by disclosing, but you kinda think if there was they woulda mentioned it by now

You've done this about 2 or 3 times in this thread.....Made some stupid sort of over the top comment about cops emptying a clip into a girls back and now blasting some random dude getting in a car, while (purposely most likely) leaving out important details or in the 2nd case having no details at all because none have been released yet. You do it intentionally to virtue signal. But sort of pose it as a question so you can play dumb if you get called out or corrected.

It's not helpful. These are real people losing their lives. The fake info and misleading to encite outrage or in your case pretend to be outraged is strange. There are ways to help. This isn't it.

Not trying to be mean, but wanted to be honest with you. I know you mean well.

Mention important details to the media about an ongoing investigation? Seems unlikely at this stage. Details will come out. And hopefully if there was no immediate threat to the officer or the public then this officer will be held accountable just like Chauvin.

And okay, yeah, maybe I’m trying to read between the lines here. But haven’t you noticed that whenever cops kill people of color, they’re usually quick to add any details that make the killing sound more justified?

“She was armed with a steak knife/He resisted and fled/he was having a medical episode,” as if the reason they died was something other than police brutality.

If they don’t add those details, perhaps there just are none. But in this instance, if there are, I hope they offer them soon. If they had any justified reason to shoot the guy, be up front about it.

And any word on what the warrant was even for, or what the victim was suspected of even doing? (Besides DWB)

When do we see the body cams?

There’s been a recent trend of showing that in a timely manner...

They do that with the majority of police involved shootings, like 99%. White and Black.

While it would be good to have. Dont act like it's going to impact your thought process. You just had video evidence and still ignored it. You're mind is made up the minute you read the headline.

Oh come on bro gimme a little credit.

It’s not that I’m ignoring evidence. In that situation, and in the current system, I get why the cop fired, and why he’ll most likely avoid charges and be back on the beat after a couple weeks of paid leave.

But I think I can be cognizant of that, while also wishing for a system that’s better than that. I don’t think it has to be so immediately fatal.

I think we can do better, can’t we? Let’s only hope there are ways to deescalate without deadly force?
