Finding New Shit on TV
Re: Finding New Shit on TV
Saying "correct" winner for best picture is like going to the MOMA, picking out ten paintings, putting someone in a room with them and having them pick out what they thought was best. And then after that, if it wasnt the one the paid off/politically motivated bourgeois picked, saying, "good painting, but incorrect."

So, your opinion on the Helms Foundation titles is...?pdub wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 6:12 am Saying "correct" winner for best picture is like going to the MOMA, picking out ten paintings, putting someone in a room with them and having them pick out what they thought was best. Also, not sure that "bourgeois" is really what you're going for, here.

Re: Finding New Shit on TV
I'm not contesting the Oscars or Helms.
That is/was the methodology at the time - however flawed it is/may have been.
But at least with the Helms, you are awarding teams with objective statistics, wins and losses.
There isn't that statistic with movies.

Re: Finding New Shit on TV
That would make Avatar as the best movie ever made.
Woof.
Illy I think tried an argument like that once.

Checks out.
Re: Finding New Shit on TV
I liked it the 1st time I saw it. It was also the 1st 3D movie I saw.
Watched it on teevee a few years later and thought WTF, this is terrible.

Re: Finding New Shit on TV
Oscars are like 1000x more legit than the Helms titles.
Re: Finding New Shit on TV
Watched it last night, really enjoyed it.
Re: Finding New Shit on TV
Nope.
Re: Finding New Shit on TV
Great movie.
BEAUTIFULLY shot. You could feel the US of A. And the people.
So good painting of a picture the director and actress carried. And subtle.
But nothing happened. No chances. No nothing. Sound of Metal better movie in my opinion.

The Son of Sam 4 part documentary on Netflix was very well done, and fascinating.
