Interesting list. Still think it’s Leipold and it’s probably closer to 80% sure now.

Skip Holtz? No, thank you. All options considered, I'd go with Leipold; he's got the best chance at starting a turn-around of some sort.

I still think Monken is a better fit for Kansas but either guy is great for Kansas standards. Fine with either.

According to multiple people I’ve read who have some good sources, Skip Holts just had a zoom, so probably an agent getting his name out for a raise for Skip. He won’t be here

I get the feeling that it's going to be Leipold for two reasons:

1. Leipold has built a reputation as a player development coach, exactly the kind of guy you need at Kansas. Recruit 2 and 3-star kids and build them up.

2. The concern over Monken's offense. I get the feeling that KU is not sold on how his offense would change when he says he wouldn't run the triple option out of the Flexbone since he's never coached a team that didn't use it. The offense would depend more on his offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, Leipold has proven he can be successful adapting his system to his talent, whether that dictates being run-heavy or pass-heavy.

Responding to your points

1. I didn't realize this but Buffalo is consistently in the bottom half of the MAC in recruiting. But yet, they are constantly winning and finishing top 3 in their division. That's really nice.

2. Buffalo led the MAC in passing in 2019. Led the MAC in rushing in 2020. Leipold, like you said, will adapt his system to his players. He has a good QB, he'll go 5 wide and air it out. He has some good backs, they'll go a spread offense option type of offense. But one thing that is nice, they are under gun and can be diverse in their sets.

I was on team Monken early and often. Just don't know what his offense will be. I think he's the better leader, would be better with boosters and fans and all that. But I think Leipold is the best choice right now to lead Kansas Football.

I am with you there. Most of the time throughout this search, I have preferred Monken a little bit more for some of the reasons you mentioned: great leader, would connect well with the fans, etc. But the more I learn about Leipold, I think he's the better player developer and X's and O's guy. As a pure football coach, Leipold seems to have the edge. And they are both Midwest guys so I think that will be a bonus. I think in a couple days Leipold will be the coach and I will be excited about that.

Think it's leaked this evening and announced tomorrow morning. Think we're getting to be down to the details now.

Seems like Monken would 'win' the press conferences but Leipold will win actual games. Either option would be great by me.

Probably correct. Leipold is an awwwwkkkkkwwwaaaarrrrdddd guy in his pressers. He kind of seems to twitch and all that as he's waiting for the question to finish. He's very similar to Old Balls to the west of Lawrence. He would move his mouth all the time while listening and then would be quiet, sometimes awkward, but the guy knew football. Think Leipold is similar in mannerisms and talent development.

Pressers don't mean shit to me. We've had guys in the past that could 'win' at the podium (Beaty, Gill) and that was the only place they won at. Win actual games.

Yeah. It's what I liked most about Monken. Can be great behind a podium and on the field. He's a charismatic guy.

But go get a winner. Leipold is a winner. (So is Monken but I think he's a clear #2 right now and it's not close)

An old boss of mine was like that. This quote, from The Big Short, was eerily nail-on-the-head:
Eisman had a curious way of listening; he didn't so much listen to what you were saying as subcontract to some remote region of his brain the task of deciding whether whatever you were saying was worth listening to, while his mind went off to play on its own. As a result, he never actually heard what you said to him the first time you said it. If his mental subcontractor detected a level of interest in what you had just said, it radioed a signal to the mother ship, which then wheeled around with the most intense focus. "Say that again," he'd say. And you would! Because now Eisman was so obviously listening to you, and, as he listened so selectively, you felt flattered. "I keep looking over at them," said Danny. "And I see Steve saying over and over, Say that again. Say that again."

Shit I thought today was Wednesday. It'll be Wednesday night when it's probably leaked on twitter.

Just noticed that KU submitted two phases of renovations for Memorial Stadium totaling $300 million. $20 million for AFH.

I'm guessing this is the plan Jeff Long submitted in summer 2019 but was all pushed back due to the pandemic?
