Beach

So I'm on a mini vacation right now. I might be the only person in the world that hates the beach. I tolerate it because others love it....i dont really love sand....its always windy...i dont like that sand is fucking everywhere all the time. I just dont like the beach.

If i can ride horses on it its more enjoyable. If i can get out in the waves its more enjoyable. But i would rather be sitting in the mountains around a fire or by a creek or mountain lake.


My kids smile a lot here tho, so that will keep me coming back....

I don't care how old you are, building sand castles is fun. "I'm just doing it because the kids like it dear." I say. Yeah, that's BS.

Beach by us is too rocky for that, which has its own perks. There's "sea glass" that is just hard enough to find that you get a little dopamine squirt when you do, like a slot machine. The kids and wife and I like looking for that.

Yea we're on the hunt for intact sand dollars. But...no one else wants to get up early with a low tide to walk...so...its, barring pure luck, a fruitless search.

i’d prefer oregon mountains over their beaches, for sure

it’s a toss up with other beaches...Bali, Philippines and Cozumel beaches were wonderful, but it wasn’t so much the beaches as much as it was the ample marine life right off of the beaches

I thought I was the only one who didn't like the beach. Give me mountains every time. Wife and kids like the beach so I occasionally have to hang out on one.

Part of the reason why I enjoy southern California is that I can be at the beach for a part of the day and in the mountains for a different part of the same day. You get the best of both worlds.
I'm slightly claustrophobic so mountains aren't always great for me but I do appreciate the beauty.
If given a choice, I prefer the beach but I completely understand why many/most prefer the mountains.
I am sitting in my living room looking at multiple beaches, blue sky (with some clouds), and beautiful blue water as far as my eyes can see. While it's not the Pacific Ocean and it's not the Rocky Mountains (both of which I would much prefer looking at), it doesn't suck.

It all depends on the beach. I'd generally prefer the mountain/woods, but when you find the rare beaches that have little wind, warm water, few people and an abundance of marine, that's tough to beat.

To me though, it just parallels my thoughts on jetskis versus ATVs/snowmobiles: after you've spent 10 minutes at a beach...you've seen everything there is to see about that beach. Getting up into the mountains brings a lot more variety.

I highly recommend getting off of the paved roads in Death Valley or the Sonora Desert.

It is amazing how diverse those areas are, every turn, something amazing shows up.

What are our thoughts on the places that try to be the best of both worlds - if not both mountains and beach, then the whole appealing outdoor elements that also tries to offer ethnic restaurants, and stuff?

Me too. About the only places that I've been where you kind of have to drag me there are cruises and theme parks. But, even then, I'm not complaining about time away.

That's where foreign countries really come in, which tend to be the trips I get most excited for.

I love traveling in the US and I have seen pretty much all of it. But, where other places have an advantage is that their smaller size gives you mountains, beaches, cities, and different culture all in one trip.
