Thanks for being a voice of reason - even if you are being sarcastic. I couldn't have dealt with hearing that silly-ass name for the next year or two.
We were OK dealing with silly ass arguments over Dok vs. Doke when he was part of a Final Four team and then a team that would have been a #1 overall seed.

Self seems to be in the "something will come along" mindset which is whart I would exopect him to say but he isn't doing himself any favors by not filling that assistant coaching spot with a stud recruiter and he hasn't been successful in selling what they have to any potential PGs so far. It doesn't sound great for either Wheeler or Martin, either. If Agbaji doesn't come back and we fail to land a good PG then next year's team is going to be decent but not a serious contender. A bummer if it plays out that way but the offseason is far from over.
Is it possible that we simply can't attract a "stud recruiter" away from one of the elite programs with all the stuff surrounding our staff/program? It's not like they grow on trees.

Self should be (and is/has always been) our stud recruiter. He's in a funk. Wouldn't be totally crazy to pull a Roy on us in a year or 2 and retire.

Illy has always wanted Bill to retire early, it's weird.

Meanwhile, Bill is inking lifetime deals.

Guys, he once read a Self quote from 15 years ago saying he didn't want to coach until he's 70....so of course he'll retire at 60.

I mean, what more evidence do you need that he's thinking about retirement than the "lifetime" contract he just signed.
I only came to kick some ass...

Rock the fucking house and kick some ass.

Still, you never know when Bill might pull a Roy on us and suddenly retire at the age of 70.

A lifetime deal doesn't mean you coach until you die. LOL

What's weird is saying i "want" him to retire simply because i do not THINK he will coach late into his life like Coach K.

I do think he will coach longer than i would have guessed 5yrs ago. Probably because retirement means he'd be stuck at home with his wife too much. Retirement isn't for everyone.

I rarely see a head coach as a stud recruiter. It's almost always an assistant coach that is building the really important relationships with recruits. The head coach is the company owner that has to yell at everyone all the time. The assistant coaches are the lower level managers that have to keep everyone from getting mad at the head coach for yelling at them all the time.

I think all of these school rely on their shoe companies to feed recruits in their door to an extent. Self is down both a show company AND a stud recruiter so we are seeing the gap right now. We have a highly ranked class for next year based on volume. Hopefully we'll be the only elite program with an open scholarship remaining when a really good PG decides to transfer in the coming months.

I don't think you "want" Self to retire. I just think you have that one interview stuck in your head and can't shake it. Sometimes being able to forget stuff works for the best.

Illy knows Self intimately.
When Illy comes into town, Self and Illy hit up 23rd street brewery and shoot the shit and Self pours his heart out about how he feels regarding his future in coaching, retirement and his relationship with his wife.

I liken it to all of those people who are about 22 and they say something to the effect of "I don't want to live past 70." Next thing they know they are turning 60 or even 50 and are singing a pretty different tune.

All of these guys that are coaching in their 70's, they aren't doing it for legacy nor, obviously, money. They're there because they are just basketball coaches. It's what they do. When they were 40, they would have probably told you they would be long done with it by that age.
