That's the 5th flavor I alluded to. Umami. Way back in the dark ages when I was in culinary school, we were taught the tongue can taste four flavors. Salt, sweet, bitter, sour. Everything else is aroma through the old factories.

This has to be trolling. Circle slash steak, circle slash bacon?
Go grab your purse and make sure there isn't a counterfeit man card in there.

There is such a thing as bad bacon and bad steak but when you have good bacon and good steak - there are very few foods that are more enjoyable to me.

That’s part of what I don’t like about bacon and steak - this goofy macho fanaticism about it!

But I more than anything I just don’t much care for the taste of red meat. I guess it can be good if you flavor it with a little mint tho.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s that I think it’s just ok. So why bother? Especially at the prices steaks can be.

I should also mention, I have a screwed up gut from when i got a parasite playing in a river, and bacon in particular messes with it. But you guys will prob try to frame my greasy bacon gut as just not being manly enough, meh whatev.

Look on the bright side - that leaves more bacon and steak for you guys. Have at it!

Either that or a man thats never had s good steak. Maybe his mom boiled it or cooked it well done. I dont have any idea how anyone can not like a good rare to medium rare steak.

Maybe.

I mean, it’s ok. I won’t not eat it. I just don’t crave it like some folks do, or default to it as the ideal special occasion meal.

I worked at a high end steakhouse, grass fed wagyu and blah blah blah, sold cuts by the ounce, like $18 an ounce for ribeye and stuff.

It was a good meal, sure, but even with an employee discount, I remember thinking, man for the price of that one meal, I could have got an awful lot of peebers and wings at the crooked creek saloon. And met more fun chicks too.

But, like I said - have at it!

I do like tuna steaks though.

I just never eat them, being in landlocked cattle ranch country and all.

I agree that steak is often way priced up at restaurants. I can buy a good cut for 15 bucks at home and grill myself rather than spend 50 on something similar.

That’s the irony of steak being priced up at restaurants - it’s not like it’s particularly difficult to cook.

This is an absolute crime.

Not if you sous vide it. I haven't had a restaurant steak since getting mine, there's just no point. Especially if you dry age it with salt in the fridge for a couple days first.

I’m trying to compare and contrast the average steakhouse chick to the average creek chick.

Steakhouse chick has a designer dress and purse, makes catty comments about all the other chicks in the joint, orders the most expensive bottle of wine just cuz, sends it back and asks for a fruity cocktail instead.

The creek chick didn’t even come with a purse, just keeps some cash in her bra, if she’s even wearing a bra, and if she isn’t then stop staring at her nips and buy her another peeber before she beats your ass in pool.

You don't have to go to a steakhouse to get a really good steak.
