there has probably never been a more unnecessarily persecuted group of animals...snakes in general, but rattlesnakes in particular

a colleague of mine from my academia days, Dr. Harry Greene, wrote an excellent book called “Tracks and Shadows” where he provides narrative for several of his many encounters with rattlesnakes. it would give most anyone a new appreciation for them

Humans have unnecessarily driven a number of animals into extinction while snakes are not endangered at all so I might disagree with your "never been a more unnecessarily persecuted group of animals" statement. But yes, people do get irrational about snakes.

I have only seen one rattlesnake in the wild and it was during my hike of the Grand Canyon. He just sat curled up on the side of the hiking trail as dozens of people walked past. I think it was too cold at the time for him to do much of anything. But it certainly led to me poking around in the scrub along the trail ahead of me for the rest of the hike.

factually wrong

check out the Eastern Indigo and the Eastern Diamondback, among numerous others

many snakes, particularly rattlesnakes, are conservation priorities in states in which they occur

Nebraska even has protections in place for the Western Massassauga pygmy rattlesnake

so I randomly went to Costco with my homie the other day and got this big bag of New Mexico piñon coffee that sounded good.

Tried it, not bad. Nutty chocolatey kinda vibes. Read up on it and learn, it’s not just coffee but coffee with added flavor, and added artificial flavor at that. Now I’m not enjoying it quite the same.

But one of the reviews described the piñon as a flavor similar to hazelnuts. That piques my curiosity, cuz I’m not familiar with the taste of hazelnuts otherwisez.

I got an allergy, and don’t think I’ve had hazelnut anything since I was a little kid, long enough ago that the only thing I remember about eating hazelnuts is then experiencing what my mom called an allergic reaction.

So I guess my question is, is this what hazelnuts taste like?

Pinons are pine nuts. Very popular in Eye-talian cooking and are also grown in the Southwest. I don't think they taste similar to hazelnuts, to me they are much milder. They're crazy expensive, so I don't doubt that it was pinon "flavored."

Oh go figure.

Yeah, I also got some pine nuts at Costco too. Way different flavor.

I like to toast them (well either in the toaster oven or just throw them in a pan, but either way get them browned) and throw them in pasta dishes. Or just salted pine nuts as a snack with some buckets.

Yeah, I bring my own pine nuts to the sat shack. I don’t trust the complimentary shack snacks ever since I saw Neil Diamond puke in the pretzel bowl.

Ousdahl’s quick easy pasta dish:

Browned pine nuts
Noodles of yer choice
Butter and olive earl
Something like basil and or oregano
Whatever kinda onion or garlic you wanna throw in there
Shitloads of Parmesan
Shitloads!
Some eggs and or whatever other protein you wanna add
Salt and mint to taste

Guess I’ll post here cuz I randomly can’t find the cooking dinner for her thread
