I was skeptical that MAGAs would storm the Capital but here we are. Having his supporters continue to support such utter nonsense just chums the water and continues to inflame people so that when what we know is going to happen (August comes and goes with no change in President) that it just increases the odds that bad things happen in some form.

Trump was never going to refuse to leave office (whatever the even entails). It's not like he's the only 1 with a key . Trump did exactly what many of us thought he'd do. Claim (falsely) that a bunch of fraudulent mail in ballots are the reason he lost.

I don't even know how 1 just refuses to leave office like some hysterical people were terrified of happening. It's just not possible for that to happen in our country.

They primary point of all of this is that Trump did things that no other president ever even considered doing, and for which our constitution and laws really didn't account. What happens if the first term president loses, but then uses his Congressional supporters to invalidate the election? How do we as a country respond? Who responds? That peaceful transfer of power wasn't exactly on solid ground in January.

We were lucky that even with all of his warts, Pence at least understood his oath and what it meant. Same with that turd of a human, Mitch McConnell. But what happens if in 2022 the democrats lose the majority in one or both houses, and those with some modicum of duty are no longer there? The 100s of voter suppression laws written and being passed across Republican-controlled states is exactly what we are saying it is - a mechanism for the minority (in this case the GQP) to forcibly capture and retain power for the foreseeable future.

This isn't a 'meh, it will be fine' thing - we can actually see the end of democracy in America and it's approaching real fucking quick.

As I posted in January - the biggest hurdle to stopping this ever-quickening train wreck isn't Trump and isn't really the QOP, it's people who continue to claim everything is fine while the building burns around them.

Both sides aren't the same. Both sides don't do it. There is no symmetry here.
