It wasn't an attempted coup. They didn't attempt to sieze any power. They broke into the building, vandalized shit, attacked police officers, and took selfies. There was no end game of storming the Capitol where those people stayed there and took over control of the entire governement.
They didn't sieze power. They threw a hissy fit that their guy lost.

Hell, even if they ultimate crazies of the group got ahold of politicians and killed them it still would not have resulted in siezing control of the governement, which is a pretty big part of something be a coup.
