Colonoscopy

Post by shindig »

Anybody ever have one. I am due I guess due to my age and family history. Met with my PCP for the first time since pre-COVID and he has already set me up with a consult with a doctor. Not looking forward to it. I guess it used to be suggested that you have them after 50, but now some doctors are suggesting after 45. Dang it.

I've had two. I documented it pretty well on the .net.

My biggest fear was the IV because of my fear of needles. The prep sux but it's not as bad as a lot of people make it out.

The first time I had conscious sedation as was zoned out and slept most of the day. The 2nd one I had done in a hospital and had Propofol. Woke up while rolling back to my cube and was fine for the rest of the day.

Make sure you video tape all of it. It will be a spectacular Tic Toc vid. You'll be surprised at your perspective and the shit you say. I was told I gave a spelunker's play by play narrative to every move of the scope.

You would go about your business on a stressful day without eating and not think much about it. But when you are consciously asked to do it it’s quite difficult. That to me was the toughest part. The second one is coming in a couple of years!

...alive, he means, shindig. A lot of people make it out alive.

So you got that goin' for you.

Not looking forward to it, but I imagine I’ll poke fun at the whole ordeal if/when I do.

There were 3 or 4 people in the room when I had mine done. Not much of a worry.

Mrs 99 worked in a clinic that did colonoscopies. They did a couple hundred a day. Nobody there wants you.

Such a weird career to choose when doing med school, spending your day looking up people's assholes. But, I guess it's necessary, just not something I would want to do all day...lol.
