Bad/weird neighbors

Post by shindig »

Anybody ever have or have a neighbor you just can't stand or think they are just weird/off or just have quirky habits?

I have an elderly neighbor, Clark, who is old (probably early 80's), but also just weird in so many ways and he's been like this since I've lived in my house for almost 10 years. He always asks me to pray for him or he's saying a prayer for me. I just think it's weird. He's super Catholic and I was raised Catholic, but don't really attend church services. He's also very private, which is fine, but I asked him if he got his COVID shot and he says "I got a shot, that's all I'm going to say about it"...lol. Just bizarre.

Another neighbor behind me is super meticulous about her backyard and she gets mad when my dog, Magnum, goes up to "my" fence and pees on it because she says it's going to kill her plants. I mean, he's a dog, he hikes his leg and pees and it's my fence (it's a picket fence that I built and stained on both sides). So now she put these ugly plywood boards up against the fence on her side and it looks stupid, but whatever. And her plants are probably a foot away from the fence, so it's not hurting her hostas or whatever she has.

I could go on but interested in other stories.

I had a boss who used to say that every neighborhood has an a-hole living in it. And if you look around and there isn't one, it's probably you.

My neighbors are all pretty cool and nice.

Dang.

Theres a lady down the road that spends her whole govt check on pet food. She, at last count had 41 cats. Most of which only go to her house to eat. Theres probably 80 of them now.
Ive been relocating them.

We have a cross the street neighbor that is always walking around on the sidewalk on the phone. Meticulously holier than thou with regard to mowing., leaf blowing etc. Empty garage. Seem super up-tight. They are moving, so we'll see what is next. I happen to enjoy my transplanted wild flowers and natural landscape, and am pretty much alone in that, so I might have what 99 was warning us about. . .

I'm very lucky, really only have one neighbor and she's a 70ish year old woman who mainly keeps to herself, but our occasional encounters are always pleasant. If I leave my garage door open, she'll call and let me know. We kind of share a strip of grass by the street and whichever one of us is mowing will get take care of the other ones portion.

A guy whose backyard we back up to very clearly looks into our house (commenting about an interior renovation, about the baby learning to walk etc.). It is deeply weird.

Yeah it is. Time to draw the blinds, at least at night.

My office window looks directly down into a window in my neighbor's house. I can't imagine trying to see anything.

gotta love privacy fences, but i’ve found they really reduce “being neighborly” more than i thought they would

Yeah, fortunately I don't have what I would say are "bad" neighbors, just odd. The lady behind me can be a little bitchy at times. I have a privacy fence that was put up on both sides of my house a few years ago, but I instead put a picket style fence on the back, now I'm thinking I might have to put up a 6 ft fence in the back. I actually did it at her request, she didn't want a 6 ft fence (of course she didn't offer to pay for any of it and after I stained it, she asked me if I could stain her side a different color...lol), which I said no, you can though.

i actually like all of my neighbors (both sides and behind), but the immediate ones are the only ones i know and interact with

i’m sure there are some weirdos, but i wouldn’t know

i’d like to think that the wife and i are weirdos in a good way

lol, that is bizarre. I have a friend that lives in Prairie Village and her neighbors came into a lot of $ somehow, because for the last 2 years+ they've been adding onto their house and it's been dragging out. There is now a 25-30 ft mound of dirt in their backyard plus a dirt mover and when it rains, all the mud runs into Kerre's backyard. It's totally a joke, I told her she needs to call the city and complain, but she won't. And the husband is creapy and is always looking out the window when she is out on her deck. I ended up building her a privacy fence about 10 ft long that's attached to her deck to block the creaps view.

When living on a 3rd floor walkup, the third floor across from where I lived had a polish lady in her 50's comb her hair 'round the same time nightly completely nude, blinds all the way up.

I just started closing our blinds.

I have great neighbors except for one. They breed boxers and french bulldogs. Not a puppy mill but they have one boxer that LOVES to bark. It starts going crazy and their other 2 boxers join in. I think they had the voice box removed on the crazy dog but it will still try to bark and the others join in again, but still a lot better than when all three would be going. I have thought about buying them some really good bark collars and leaving them on their doorstep. It never fails that if I go into our privacy fenced backyard and want to lay in the hammock the crazy dog will be outside in it's kennel/run and will start barking. I am lucky in that they only put them outside during the really nice days, the really hot/cold days they are inside and it is quiet.

Not a dog hater, I have a Rottweiler that is an inside dog and will bark sometimes when he is outside and hears noises but he barks two or three times and stops, he knows to chill out.
