Re: Would you be on the Jury?
Good point. I was thinking along the lines of rape, child molestation, and murder but I suppose I should expand my list of "heinous" crimes to include many if not most felonies that physically, mentally, and financially harm others.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 8:37 pmdepends what you would classify as heinousNotGutterGutter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 6:35 pmWhile horrible and inexcusable, I wonder what the percentage is of people who have committed heinous crimes and never spent a day in jail. That others walk freely who properly belong behind bars has NO bearing on the injustice of an improperly convicted person being behind bars.
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...

Deflection or not, as I said, I feel it's horrible and inexcusable - when a person is convicted and put behind bars when they are/were innocent.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:09 pmThis is a deflection from the point.NotGutterGutter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 6:35 pmWhile horrible and inexcusable, I wonder what the percentage is of people who have committed heinous crimes and never spent a day in jail. Unfortunately I somewhat disagree on the bearing and feel in some cases if those who are guilty of committing crimes were convicted, less innocent people would be accused of committing crimes they didn't commit.

"[D]isagree on the bearing" means what?
And "more guilty-incarcerated in some cases means fewer not-guilty-incarcerated" is something you're pulling out of yr a**, in order to rationalize yr deflection.

If you don't care about a straightforward and clear distinction b/w two types of injustice, I suppose it might seem so.

It's a topic worthy of discussion, but strange to go at someone over their opinion on something as subjective as the statement he made.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:31 pmIf you don't care about a straightforward and clear distinction b/w two types of injustice, I suppose it might seem so.

Wtf is wrong with some of you? Do you get some sort enjoyment out of ganging up on people and throwing ugliness for no purpose? All while preaching tolerance and acceptance and rainbows and butterflies across the rest of the board. What are you, the cops of Kcrim? Your clique makes this place less enjoyable than it should be.
Just Ledoux it

"ugliness"? "ganging up"?
I disagreed w/ someone. All by myself. No names called. No exclamation points. No all-caps.

That's something we can live with to the extent it is part of the overall policy of not overcharging/convicting and wrongly imprisoning people. Those are the types of things that separate us from our less-evolved ancient ancestors.NotGutterGutter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:14 pmDeflection or not, as I said, I feel it's horrible and inexcusable - when a person is convicted and put behind bars when they are/were innocent.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:09 pmThis is a deflection from the point.NotGutterGutter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 6:35 pm

Yep. Hence the fundamental, aspirational requirement that all elements of a crime be proven beyond any and all reasonable doubt.
