Which would suggest the draft being good.

Where would Joe Harris go in a 2014 re-draft? Top 10 pretty easy? A draft that includes Joker, Embiid, Gordon, Wiggs, etc. Kispert might go Top 15 this year.

Maybe on offense/shooting...but not much else.
Just offense, you know.

Always great when your #1 overall pick is good for 5 PPG in the playoffs in today's NBA.
Always great when your number 1 pick is a 3x all star. 2x all NBA 1st team defense. 1x NBA steals leader. A 1x all NBA 3rd team.

I can find a lot of #1 overall picks with far inferior resumes thru their 1st 5 NBA seasons (and 1 of those seasons he didn't even play).

Ben Simmons averages 16pts per game for his career. Let's not forget that because of 1 bad postseason.

How long do you think Detroit's GM would laugh if the Sixers called and asked for a straight up Simmons/Pick #1 swap? 10 minutes?

Cade actually reminds me more of a Luka anyway. Simmons talk is a little unfair.

Tangentially, Devonte' was probably the best alley-oop passer we've ever had here (w/ a not do A. Miles), and then we get Dotson and Garrett whom wouldn't even be able to get LeBron an oop.
Garrett threw nice oops two years ago. I really don't get his inability to do so last year.

I mean, it probably has something to do with Dok not being the recipient for a lot of those

Devonte' with 2020 Udoka would have been something else.

Udoka had something like a 41" vert at the 2020 closed combine. Wouldn't be surprised if that was a half foot higher than it was in 2018/19.

Re: Garrett’s inability to throw oops last year, it goes back to my point about the personnel around him.

Oops need a receiving end. Who?

Our guys at the 3, 4, 5 were the most below the rim we’ve ever been, by a margin too.

The only guy who was any good at oops was our off-guard, who we’ve been crapping on for being too passive.

No one else had any clue how to pass a lob either. More than once I remember DMac cutting to the hoop for an open lob as Braun drove, and Braun not even noticing.

I remember Dok's freshman year, I think it was against something like Alcorn State, and he just kept running to the rim, looking at the pg, and pointing up for the oop. He probably had at least 5 dunks that game. Was really fun and funny to watch. It was like the 2012 Olympics when they would put Anthony Davis in for mop-up minutes and it looked like his teammates were having fun just throwing the ball up anywhere near the rim and seeing him slam it.

You've got awfully high hopes for Cade. I am not sold. Put up good numbers obviously and looked good doing it, but his team went 21-9 (11-7 5th in Big12)...and 6 of his 10 highest scoring outputs came in losses (hard to say whether that means anything or not).

I don't think he will ever be Luka level. To be honest i don't know if i think he will be any better than Wiggins (not that Wiggins has been bad, just not maple jordany like we thought.

Simmons has 5 years of NBA experience (only 4 playing) to go off of.

It's a bizarre narrative to push that a 3x All Star is a bust, but to each their own.

All Star is a sham. 50% fan vote and 50% player/media vote.

Has little to nothing to do with how good he actually is. Philly a big market and they are passionate so they’ll vote their guys in.

I don't know that I ever used the word bust. It is jus "bizarre" to me to defend Ben Simmons by bringing up Cade Cunningham's college team record considering how bad Ben's team did in college.

Trae Young's OU team was 18-14. He's still a star. College team record is pretty irrelevant in judging ability, especially when the player has personal reasons for choosing a team (a coach for Simmons/Cunningham or home town for Young).

I'm frequently way off on projecting success in the NBA, but Suggs would be my #1 overall pick.

Third that. Cade is really good, but Suggs is a game changer in every sense of the word. Cade can disappear a bit too much.

I thought this was interesting from Matt Norlander:

"The terribly kept secret in NBA circles for the past two years is no longer a secret. Butler has an undisclosed heart condition that's currently preventing him from doing any sanctioned NBA activity, as a Fitness-to-Play panel is reviewing his eligibility."
