a good friend has a 14-year old pit, and was lamenting having to do just that...then i saw the video of the elevator and had to share with him (and you)

Yep, there's probably no expense I would spare to keep my boxer longer (as long as I knew he wasn't suffering of course). He's 8.5 now, but still acts like a puppy. I probably spend more on his food per month than I do for myself, but he's worth it.

yeah, it sucks. They are family and in a lot of cases, better than family.

Kids have been begging. Wife is hesitant, but i think we've convinced her....so this fall we are going to get a dog most likely.

Haven't decided what route to take, adoption or buy from breeder, don't judge me.


I like english setters (had one when i was a kid), all the labs/golden retrievers, and also like miniature american shepherds....but not just exclusively looking at those breeds. Any advice?

I like english setters (had one when i was a kid), all the labs/golden retrievers, and also like miniature american shepherds....but not just exclusively looking at those breeds. Any advice?

Im partial to Golden Retrievers. Particularly with the kids around. Ive had very good luck with the breed. Loyal, friendly, smart, and they stay around. Big enough to hold their own and can get in the truck etc. Ive had at least one for the last 20 years. Ill be back up to 2 this weekend.

Ill probably get a heeler again at some point. But i have no cows and they get restless without a job....they are also a little more unpredictable around kids.

Cant go wrong with setters or labs either....theyre just a little more unpredictable, a little more....dog instinct than a golden. Which, is great...but I want my kids to grow up with this dog and in my opinion you cant beat a golden for that.

The other day my golden picked up one of our ducks and brought it to the porch. Didnt hurt it, just set it down and laid by it, just wanted a buddy to sit by i guess. Very gentle dogs.

That's kind of the way i am leaning.

The english setter we had when i was a kid was super gentle and kid friendly...but my dad also hunted back in the day and she loved that, which i don't do and wouldn't want to get a breed that is bored (same hesitation i have with Australian shepherd or mini american shepherd, even though kids are active, i don't live on a farm and those are working dogs that love the action it seems like).

In theory I'd love to...but way harder to find puppies of something we want.

I keep an eye on shelters almost daily for stuff.

Well, try to pick a dog cuz they’re a good dog, not just cuz they’re a particular breed or otherwise cute.

Rescue or breeder, just try to get to know the thing first either way

if you’re looking at a group of puppies, pick the ones that approach you first, regardless of “look”, sex or size
