F the NCAA
Re: F the NCAA
i sense a clusterphucque coming.
Re: F the NCAA
I do too.
But i'm willing to see what happens.
If it's Ochai in a set em up jacks commercial and he's being paid reasonably, not great, but overall fine.
If we have loads of 5 star players going to the Dukes and UNCs and appearing in Nike ads, versus the 5 stars coming to KU and appearing in Adidas ads, and now it's THE recruiting tool to the schools, well, that's a big meh for me.
In two/three years when ESPN articles inevitably come out saying the NCAA hasn't done enough and they should directly pay the players, that's the peak of said clusterphucque.

Re: F the NCAA
It's not a total free for all. Some of it is regulated and schools are not allowed to be involved or use it as a form of recruiting (hopefully our staff can find a way to follow these new rules).holidaysmore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:40 am Mitch hoarding himself out on social media. Gotta love it.
In those same lines who is the first Jayhawk to sign a deal? Dave and Long MacArthur Ford? Och and Set Em up Jacks?
Re: F the NCAA
If the schools start paying players then i will feel similar to you and it won't be the same for me....but if it's just players using NIL and schools find a way NOT to use it as a recruiting advantage then i am okay with it....but that's a big IF. Many staffs couldn't follow the rules before so I am not sure i trust them to walk the straight and narrow now. We will see.pdub wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:16 am I do too.

Re: F the NCAA
The novelty of this will wear off within a couple years, and we'll wonder what the big deal ever was.

If only there were a brand that would be an obvious fit for Remy Martin.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:40 amIn those same lines who is the first Jayhawk to sign a deal? Dave and Long MacArthur Ford? Och and Set Em up Jacks?

Sure. And I'll admit it's funny seeing dudes like Mitch Lightfoot out there trying to shill.
But ultimately this will be like patches on NBA uniforms or anything else...it'll just blend into the ecosystem of the sport. And, by surviving, the sport will be better for it.

This is also what you get when you willfully ignore a problem for 40+ years.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:10 amSure. And I'll admit it's funny seeing dudes like Mitch Lightfoot out there trying to shill.

Absolutely. There was a huge opportunity to shape this instead of having it just sort of dropped in your lap.Cascadia wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:24 amThis is also what you get when you willfully ignore a problem for 40+ years.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:10 amSure. Was so perfect, and IIRC, it was within a matter of weeks after his last KU game.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:05 amI about died a few years ago when Perry Ellis did a Perry Ellis ad.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:59 amIf only there were a brand that would be an obvious fit for Remy Martin.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:40 amIn those same lines who is the first Jayhawk to sign a deal? It was about this time of year (I know, because I posted about it on Facebook, and just saw the memory).

Oh hell yea, the world is one big ad. Gotta love it. I cant wait to try Milos Sweet Tea now. Maybe i can get a Braun branded shirt with an archer across the chest. Maybe the arrow says Braun in an arc as it launches toward a bullseye with a backboard. God thatd be cool.

I think I recall hearing that EA Sports has started to pump money/developers back into NCAA Football.

Re: F the NCAA
are there rules under the new guidelines about profits associated with player-university affiliations?
for example, if Och does a commercial for Laird-Noller, can he be wearing KU gear? his jersey?

They mentioned some things like whether school logos can be worn are (or are going to be) state/school specific.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 11:26 am are there rules under the new guidelines about profits associated with player-university affiliations?

I am waiting for Dabo's dumb ass to take his ball and go home like he promised if NLI was passed.
