Kids
Re: Kids
During my interview, I had lunch with the grad students in the department.
One student, at least 3 times, mentioned how he hadn't been north of the mason-dixon line. I didn't know if that was some kind of weird racist code speak, or what. I mean, what ~23 year old is making multiple references to the Mason-Dixon line in casual conversation? Why wouldn't you just say, I've never been further north than WV or something?

I only came to kick some ass...

Went to Knoxville for a weekend. Didn't get out of downtown but had a pretty good time.
Smokies are really cool, I can't get out of Pigeon Forge fast enough though.
Lexington is pretty cool. It's a beautiful state.

Re: Kids
Lex is way better than Knoxville, imo. Knox outside of downtown area is most of the bad parts of the south.
Haven't been to Smokies, but hear that is a good trip if you're into that kind of thing.
Re: Kids
I'm going to Nashville again for Chiefs this year. The locals (who am I kidding - the bartenders) tell me they're just inundated with away fans, every week.
Same thing is starting to happen in KC, but for different (Mahomes) reasons.

We took my kid and her friend to a concert in Nashville a couple years ago. Stayed at a hotel across from the football stadium. Kinda dumpy. Lots of country music bars within walking distance of the hotel. Lots of hipsters with man buns and neck beards. We were only there for one night.

It's a great time, but the big "corporate-y" bars (pretty much anything with an artist's name on it) suck. But place's like Tootsie's and The Stage etc. are terrific.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:09 pm We took my kid and her friend to a concert in Nashville a couple years ago. Re: Kids
I grew up right outside of Pigeon Forge. Dollywood was basically my daycare during the summer months, so that was fun. Parents moved us to Kansas when we were still young solely for the purpose of getting away from all of the tourists and, yes, racist family members. All in all, its a beautiful place if you're into hiking the mountains, enjoying the outdoors, and are only going to be there for a few days.
On another note (and which conveniently happens to be the thread topic), I recently got news that ol' Wiff is going to be a dad. Pray for my soul.

I hope you didn't go to Kid Rock's bar...lol. I dated a girl years ago that loves Kid Rock and we went to Nashville a couple times. After 2 days, I was over it, kind of like Vegas. I don't really get the appeal of Nashville, although I do like "some" country music, but mostly older country from the late 70's-early 90's.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:09 pm We took my kid and her friend to a concert in Nashville a couple years ago. Yeah and the wanna be hipster crowd is annoying, but whatever. Every time I see a neck beard I think, god, that looks so uncomfortable and sweaty and itchy.

Hipsters unite
Come align for the big fight to rock for you
But beware
All those angels with their wings glued on
'Cause deep down
They are frightened and they're scared
If you don't stare
anyway so who wants honey?
And for real congrats Wiff that’s exciting!

Actually, it was a Valentine's night. We dropped the kids off at the big basketball arena and went out to find someplace to have dinner. With no reservations. Bad idea, I ended up in the hospital a few days later, probably with food poisoning from a bad oyster.shindig wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 5:21 pmI hope you didn't go to Kid Rock's bar...lol. oh man that sucks. I've had food poisoning a few times, but never had to go to the hospital, I was just on the toilet for 24 hours and that's bad enough.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 7:52 amActually, it was a Valentine's night.
