Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Spent the weekend at the family farm in rural KS. A memorial service for my favorite aunt followed by a family reunion and 4th of July celebration. I was really worried about my youngest as she is too young to be vaccinated and I knew there were going to be a lot of people there who were at a higher risk of having covid. My cousin and her daughters weren't there as they were all sick at home with covid. I'll count myself fortunate that they had symptoms bad enough that they recognized they had it and stayed home.
I'd say that 90% of the rest of the people I was worried about being around stated that they had already had covid in the last year. Several of them were still fighting serious lung issues and were winded just walking a few dozen feet from the house to the tent outside where we had things set up. Turns out that a few of the family members who wanted to come had long term symptoms bad enough that they didn't risk making the trip.
The number of Trump flags in the local parade down Main Street was the highest number ever. The kid who looked like he was 10 years old on the ATV with a flag bearing a picture of Trump riding on a tank with an assault rifle in his arms was especially absurd. It was an even weirder weekend than I had expected but we had a lot of fun.

I visited a state park nearby my hometown and was driving through a rural countryside and passed by a dead tree that had red metal letters that read: “TRUMP”. Did I mention they were on a dead tree? A few miles later I passed a 1-car garage painted Orange with a black “01” on the side. Dukes of Hazard fans…

How bout women should have the right to choose AND the vaccine should be a choice.
Just Ledoux it
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I mean, of course it's an individual's choice to get vaccinated or not.
But saying that kinda suggests that both choices have equal merit. They don't.
You can choose whether or not to wipe your ass after you take a shit. But again there's a correct choice and an incorrect choice.

You guys do realize that ridiculing, belittling, and demeaning "those people" is the best possible way to make sure they keep doing the exact opposite of what you want, right? I still contend that Trump would never have been elected in the first place, save Hillary's "basket of deplorables" speech. That motivated the masses to vote whatever was the polar opposite of her views. Same principle at work here.sdoyel wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 10:17 pmI’ll never understand the appeal of the Orange Man to rural, uneducated, poor Americans…twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 9:22 am Spent the weekend at the family farm in rural KS. They aren't talking about forcing people to get vaccinated; just in making it easier to get vaccinated. If it is brought right to your door then there is no other excuse for anyone who wants a vaccination to not get one. Also, having a person there in person to answer any questions might help alleviate concerns someone may have.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
BS. That's the same victim mentality that Trumpers whine about everyone else having. Plus, I have never ever seen anyone stop being a dumbass simply because no one was pointing out what a dumbass they are any more. It doesn't actually happen so I reject your theory that it is why this happened. There is zero actual evidence to support your claim.JKLivin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:49 amYou guys do realize that ridiculing, belittling, and demeaning "those people" is the best possible way to make sure they keep doing the exact opposite of what you want, right? blaming ignorance and being inconsiderate of one’s neighbors/community is nobody’s fault other than those exhibiting those characteristics
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
The problem isn’t the deplorable behavior, so much as it is the other folks who call out the behavior as deplorable.
The audacity!

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
How fucking weird is it for the them to go door to door to push a vaccine? Look man, i got the vaccine....but that is weird weird shit.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:53 amThey aren't talking about forcing people to get vaccinated; just in making it easier to get vaccinated. i would turn the sprinklers on them.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
That is kind of intense. I’d be weirded out if somebody came to my door trying to stick me, but I’m also afraid of needles either way.
The problem isn’t necessarily access to vaccines, it’s the misinformation.
For the conspiracy theorists, it’s prob just fuel for the fire.
I heard the best way to disarm them is to have trusted and familiar medical doctors talk to them about it. But I dunno if the family doctor is the one going door to door.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
It certainly wouldnt alleviate my concerns to have a salesman come door to door pushing a product.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:07 am That is kind of intense. I’d be weirded out if somebody came to my door trying to stick me, but I’m also afraid of needles either way.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
You are acting as if dumbassery is an objective construct, when, in reality, it is incredibly subjective. You labeling it as such does not make it so in reality. People believe what they believe and do what they do for reasons that make sense to them. Until we recognize that, we will continue to have a stark divide in this country.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:57 amBS.
