In an exhibition game to Nigeria, a team that Team USA beat by 83 points in the 2012 Olympics. First ever loss to a team from an African nation. Nigeria hit 20 three pointers.

One of the most embarrassing losses in Team USA history.

Nigeria has 7 NBA players but still. Nice serving of some humble pie for the guys who played from team usa.

Which American "traditional" big man would you add? Derrick Favors? Jarrett Allen? The criticism of those guys being on the team would be worse than when it was announced Love was taking the last spot.

Not that this is an excuse, because these dudes should be able to handle Australia and Nigeria, but those countries, year in year out, have a consistent roster that plays together, and plays the same systems.

It's why the US soccer team has done better than expected at points - while national teams with big pools of players who have just come off long seasons in England, Italy, Spain, with retooling rosters, can struggle pre and even during the tournaments, the US has generally kept it's roster the same for a year/years, and thus work better as a team.

The women's soccer team benefits from the fact that no other countries previously invested in women's soccer ( or maybe even women's team sports in general ) to the level the US has, so their competition is similar to USA Men's basketball in 1992.

Well to be fair the US Womens soccer team is a world power...so i think they'd be fine regardless.

What was surprising while watching was that it didn't look like lack of continuity was the eventual downfall. It just looked like we got beat. Down the stretch KD was getting to spots for good looks and a few times Thybuille straight up rejected his shit or forced a miss with good D.

We were running offense, just at about 75% speed because it truly looks like our players do not care quite as much as the other teams.

I didn't watch but I can guarantee you if you let these guys play in 10-15 more games together, they'd look worlds better.
