Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
A former colleague said her brother was on a trip with 11 other friends and colleagues at an East Coast location. All 12 vaccinated. On Saturday 10/12 tested positive after a few of them had mild cold-/flu-like symptoms. Fortunately no one’s symptoms are serious but the fungus is still there!
Apparently my colleague’s brother knows exactly which 20 minute window most likely got him - it was at a bar where he went in to get drinks while they were at an outdoor table. No masking in the bar…..

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
So when do we expect a round 2 of "shutdowns"? I'm predicting September 15th - or sooner.
I sure hope I am wrong.
I sure hope I am wrong.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I think that any shut downs will be local/regional, not at the state or larger level. Areas with low vaccination rates may be forced to shut down again as new variants spread amongst the unvaccinated.NotGutterGutter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 6:24 am So when do we expect a round 2 of "shutdowns"? Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
not sure the areas with low vaccination rates would also be areas willing to shut down again.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Forced by who, though? Areas with low vaccination rights tend to have local/state governments who, charitably,* view shutdowns as antidemocratic.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 6:58 amI think that any shut downs will be local/regional, not at the state or larger level. * In fact, it's probably more accurate to say the applicable local/state governments perversely view low vaccination rates as badges of honor, or perhaps tribute to the rot that has infected and has substantially overtaken the American right.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
we didn't have to declare our political affiliation at the vaccination location that i went to. nobody asked me.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Neato. I wish you the best should your vaccination happen to be ineffective against a variant that emerges out of the fungus as it ping-pongs among those who choose to be unvaccinated to own the libs.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Areas with low vaccination rates are mostly doing so by choice and will likely ignore any mandated shutdowns...just my guess.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 6:58 amI think that any shut downs will be local/regional, not at the state or larger level. (Sorry multiple people said the same thing above)
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Ya. It won't happen in rural IL. They didn't comply last time in many areas, so no chance they do so if there is a new shutdown.
Most of the businesses in Springfield (where i live) shutdown as ordered, but a few didn't....the city got the last laugh though since at least 1 of those places is now out of business because they had their liquor license revoked.

That’s telling.
“Pandemic in America: who gets the last laugh?”

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Ok, so if it doesn't happen in rural IL, what happens if it occurs in Chicago and other places where goods and services can/do affect those in rural IL?BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 8:11 amYa. I'm selfishly thinking that I am supposed to travel on vacation in mid September. If airlines, hotels, car rentals, concerts, sporting events, etc., are affected - I am not going to be a happy guy.
