What’s that?

I imagine AZ and CO will too.

IIRC the 1922 Colorado River Compact allotted only 3% of the basin’s water to Nevada, which is why they’re ahead of the trend and active about water patrol and ornamental lawns and stuff.

But yeah, all those “I’m an environmentalist but also an entitled douche about my suburban yard” CO Front Rangers, among others, are in for a rude awakening.

i don’t recall what their actual allotment is, but if memory serves, they are the first to get a reduction when Lake Mead hits its breaking point

I need to go re-read my water books, but I think much of the Fraser and upper Colorado diversions go to eastern CO beet farmers.

There’s no water in the arid prairie of eastern CO, and no way beets would grow there otherwise, and they’re not even a particularly profitable or essential crop to grow, except for new deal era policies that afford eastern CO farmers both the water rights and also generous subsidies for growing beets and shit.

The policies were meant to create jobs during the depression, little more, and have endured despite being bass ackwards otherwise. And of course, if anyone proposes changes, the beet farmers raise a fuss about mah rights, and how the libs are trying to take away their way of life.
