Beginning of the end?
Say you stay in your house despite a hurricane warning. You have plenty of notice, but you just decide to stay put.

Then the hurricane comes, and knocks your house down.

I suppose, when you're sifting through the rubble and the storm is on the way out, you can still acknowledge which way the wind blows.

A Big Day for Bellyachers

https://defector.com/a-big-day-for-bellyachers/
Not that the NCAA is fully beaten yet. It is the creeping dry rot of sports and has been maintaining a chokehold on the industry through decades of well-compensated malfeasance so spectacularly clumsy that the Austro-Hungarian Empire wants its text messages returned. The Supremes broke from their time-honored pose kneeling on the neck of progressive America to chastise this anthrax pinata with an eye toward having it torn down and reconstituted as an ATM in a liquor store, but the NCAA still has lawyers dressed as weasels and vice versa to prolong its death rattle for years to come.

Still, to have Emmert explain how it might be time for schools and conferences to inherit increased powers of governance and banking is telling the fire outside town to stop and unburn all that acreage, lest you get angry and hold your breath until it does. Emmert has finally reached his apex of fecklessness, and he is now no longer adequate as a comedic foil because he is down to insisting that at least he gets to use his own pen to sign the surrender papers. The only thing left to do is to watch the conferences and schools backstab and screwjob each other into mutually assured bankruptcy … and their time … starts … now.

We won’t miss DeChambeau’s bullying now that it has been called out by a second-level executive, nor will we miss Emmert’s knack for seeking to lead a parade that has already trampled him en route to the town square. But now that their times have come, we’ll need new foils to laugh at because in the matter of golf, someone’s got to be the Republican in the clubhouse all the other Republicans in the clubhouse hate, and in the matter of the NCAA, well, it’s hard to hate a deposed king until we know what a bastard the new king will turn out to be.

That analogy only works if you, hiding in your house from the hurricane, previously took payments from a mad scientist who manufactures hurricanes so you could pay for your big, awesome house on the coast when you could have listened to some of your friends and just moved somewhere cheaper, closer to them, and had a better life.

Instead, your mad scientist has done what he does, and has manufactured his hurricane, and you're all, well, didn't see this coming.

I don't disagree with any of this. Pigs, fat; hogs, slaughtered.

Except you still want to hang out on the swanky coast with all the fancy glass buildings.
You just want everyone there, in smaller swanky houses.

Your friends out by the lakes are eventually gonna stop callin.
But you don't care, fuck em, it's a them problem.

I'm not sure where exactly this analogy is trying to head. My opinion is that all that's really going to happen is a more transparent and equitable distribution of money. I don't think the sport itself is going to change, except maybe some borderline NBA guys will stay in school longer.

You should be upset. More rich people now going to profit on the backs of college "students" . Guarantee Phil isnt structuring these deals with no cut for himself.

Nope, there’s never before been a single instance of shoe guys funneling shady money to student ath-o-letes.

I’m instead trying to think of it as a win for historically marginalized workers who can now realize their fair market value without the rich suppressing it.

I think the nature of a fair market is that it sort of moots disagreements over what value is. That's the idea, anyway.

Jfish just lives and breathes dollar signs.
Value, to him, is simply monetary.
There is no other value.

It's THE argument.
