I also remember when shitty KU FB randomly used James Sims to run all over a pretty good WVU football team.

Not like UNL's, though.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:46 amOur membership has been shaky, tho'
I think we should be in a pretty good spot for research with the med school's rapid expansion.

Not like UNL's in that they've been removed, but on a path, maybe...

Re: Conference Realignment..?
The B1G unfortunately isn't going to counter OU and TX moving to the SEC (adding big media markets like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio), by adding KU (Kansas City) and IState (already have DesMoines).
Re: Conference Realignment..?
no matter what the future holds, KU basketball will continue to be great. KU football will continue to be rotten.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
in all seriousness, they’ve done themselves no favors when it comes to to recent hires (or attempted hires) in EEB and the BI. and of course, the economics and politics of the state have had an impact on that as wellChalkRocker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:51 am Not like UNL's in that they've been removed, but on a path, maybe...

it wasn’t too long ago that they could’ve hired away from UT a member of the National Academy of Sciences, of which i believe KU only had one faculty member at the time (who has since passed away)...but they couldn’t make it happen
they also had some high-level candidates interview for the Director if he BI/NHM recently, and failed to get a commitment

Re: Conference Realignment..?
When we were all talking about this a decade ago, sure would have been nice to have the benefit of foresight on the Big 12 and put together a packaged bid to the B1G with Mizzou.

Who exactly is this guy? For as much detail as he gives you'd think he'd have more followers.
He also said that Oklahoma St was ready to sign another GOR with just the 8 teams that are left in the Big XII.

Why do media markets matter this time around? People stream and will buy a subscription.

Absolutely.nu_bronco wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:37 amYeah, I understand that. I would still feel more comfortable if the team was closer to .500 instead of .100.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:09 amThe last two schools added by the B1G were Rutgers and Maryland.
But, if you are looking to bet on something long term, I believe KU has the 3rd highest athletic revenue in the Big 12 all while having the worst football numbers. I see potential for a ton of growth for a conference to see.

It’s not nearly the same emphasis this go around. Are you well known and can you compete in most of the sports and are your students smart. That’s what it comes down to.

Nicole Auerbach in the last hour:
Most of the realignment conversation thus far has centered on football, which makes sense because football (and football money) drives so much of the decision-making in this sort of thing. But Kansas basketball's situation has come up a lot in my conversations with administrators throughout the country in the past few days. Obviously, the football program is in bad shape, but how valuable is KU basketball? Is that enough to carry the Jayhawks to another Power 5 league? KU is also a member of the Association of American Universities, and that academic standing can matter to presidents and chancellors from other leagues.
