lol. But if KU isn't in a P5 or P4 conference, you think Self sticks around? I'm betting not.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 3:16 pmwhy you even gotta go there?

Big 12 going after ESPN. Good luck.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Restitution might make sense. ESPN was definitely behind this and have been MFs about KU on the air. Bilas didn't just throw out his super conference idea. The original BCS was going this route. But actual harm to a conference and other sports networks with documented evidence is not nothing.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 5:25 pm uh...it’s a little late, bob

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Maybe. But there's a (few?) dozen prestige prgms in non-P5 connys now,and a handful more if the Big 12 shattered.
I wonder if we'd be wise (as a conference) to sit tight a bit and avoid the urge to flinch.
Same time, I think we're okay wherever we land. so that's my starting point

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Is what true? The letter is real and Bowlsby is referencing evidence he received that ESPN has been in the past few days speaking with AAC about going after the Little 8.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 7:05 pmis this true?
Bowlsby's threat here, though, seems so empty. The end game is what exactly? Cease and desist or we will rip up our telecast contract with ESPN? Be careful what you wish for. Hell, someone like TCU would have to be ecstatic over a AAC-Little 8 merger.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
My point being that, imo, Bowlsby doesn't write that ltr w/o the concurrence (urging?) of the remaining eight.
Was he in agreement that it should be sent, or did he reluctantly place it over his name?
Was that scrawl suggestive of anything, or are we all, including our commish, a united front, pursuing a reckless or ballsy approach*?
*depending on yr view

Re: Conference Realignment..?
We don't know what the evidence is yet--but it wasn't just the last few days, it involved a scheme to recruit UT and OU to the SEC and work around them having to pay any exit fees.

I can’t believe it took 27 pages for me to get in on this, and that’s all I had
Re: Conference Realignment..?
The scheme is working perfectly. Those 2 are all but a lock for SEC...and now the remaining big 12 schools are going to scramble to find a better home and it'll possibly result in one of the remaining teams (us?) eating the fee so they can move before 2025.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
I sure hope we're looking out for ourselves and ourselves only. And that we'd leap at a B1G offer, even if it's painful.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:20 amThe scheme is working perfectly. That article about espn trying to influence the merger with AAC makes me think the BIG10 may be a longshot.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:36 amI sure hope we're looking out for ourselves and ourselves only. Re: Conference Realignment..?
Possible! But I think we should be trying. I do not think a salvaged "Big 12" is viable.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
What teams would you try to add? I would love to get Nebraska, Missouri and Arkansas, but I know that ain't happening, even if Nebraska and Arkansas aren't happy in their respective conferences, the money they make would be too hard to turn away from.
I don't want any more TX schools like Houston or SMU. Done with Texas. Do you try to get the Buffs back from the PAC12? Or do we just go all in and go after Wichita State...lol.
Edit: Sorry I thought you said the Big 12 was viable.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
if one conference is going to "fold into" the other, why would the BIG 12 become the aac? and not the other way around?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
Right, I don't want to add anyone. I want out. A Big 12 that is saved, but worse, is just going through this again.shindig wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 9:02 amWhat teams would you try to add? We need to - ugh - learn from Mizzou here. If you can find your spot, get it.
