F the NCAA
Re: F the NCAA
Its all bullshit. The return on investment on this kid at this point is low. This is equivalent of money laundering for pay to play.
And Saban is shouting it across the country as expected.

Zion wasn't doing commercials.Sparko wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:19 pmThank goodness a media giant isn't providing Alabama and the SEC with an unfair competitive advantage to the detriment of every other college program. I am beginning to think I would rather watch kids playing for pride myself.TDub wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:56 am https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... -nil-deals
My interest in "amateur" "college" athletics wanes everytime i read this stuff. Consulted with his agent.......blah.......memorabilia? Kid hasnt played a fucking snap...
What memories, what are we saving of his for its historical importance or value?
At least on the surface this stuff is not related closely to the school. Or committing to the school. Zion was requesting things to commit. I don't like that type of stuff.
It isn't the local car dealership handing over 6 figures like some feared. It is national companies who see value in the players themselves.
Seems more like the local car dealerships (and cookie shops) are paying the Mitch Lightfoots to be in their ads more often. Cheaper. Same affect more or less. I am okay with this type of NIL. If it isn't tied to committing to a school then i am good with it.
Re: F the NCAA
What is cash app getting out of it then? The company is an alabama fan?
The trading card companies can't all be owned by Alabama boosters, right?
This doesn't appear to have anything to do with pay to play. He was already there.
Re: F the NCAA
Value in the player.....a $1mil. In a player that hasnt proved a damn thing. Ok.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:43 pmZion wasn't doing commercials.Sparko wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:19 pmThank goodness a media giant isn't providing Alabama and the SEC with an unfair competitive advantage to the detriment of every other college program. I’m sure Nike regrets inking Lebron in high school before he proved anything.
Re: F the NCAA
What does he need to prove? They aren't paying him to play football for their company.TDub wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:49 pmValue in the player.....a $1mil. For sure. It's all upside.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:53 pm I’m sure Nike regrets inking Lebron in high school before he proved anything.
If he sucks next year he won't be in any more cash app commercials. They'll move on to the next player that has a HUGE fan base.

Bryce young has a HUGE fanbase? Or alabama has a HUGE fanbase?BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:55 pmFor sure. It's all upside.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:53 pm I’m sure Nike regrets inking Lebron in high school before he proved anything.

Re: F the NCAA
Had you heard of Bryce Young before he went to Alabama? Would Bryce youngs "fans" be his fans if he was at Wyoming? What percentage of those fans are fans because he wears a script A on his hatBasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:25 pmBoth. Re: F the NCAA
Nikes contract with lebron had nothing to do with college affiliation. Bryce Youngs absolutely does.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:40 pmWhat are you talking about?TDub wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:24 pmWhat college did Lebron play forCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:53 pm I’m sure Nike regrets inking Lebron in high school before he proved anything.

do these endorsements have more to do with their school, or them?

I would agree with that, but they’re more similar than different. It’s an investment into “unproven” potential. It happens all the time in a ton of industries.
Re: F the NCAA
Are they Non-Traditional students? I didn't watch the video, but in the still shot, they look like 35 year olds trying to look like they're college age?TraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 2:05 pm do these endorsements have more to do with their school, or them?

The endorsements will last beyond a few years in school for many. But the school plays a part, no doubt.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 2:05 pm do these endorsements have more to do with their school, or them?

Tangentially, it’s never mentioned how much the coaches also benefit from the school affiliation. Probably even more than the players.
Re: F the NCAA
Probably, but there are other reasons why Jay Wright has shampoo commercials and Phil Martelli never did.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 2:11 pmThe endorsements will last beyond a few years in school for many.
