Sporting had to sell Busio. They could not make the same mistake with him that they made with Erik Palmer-Brown. Remember him? One of the most promising young centerbacks in the US. Are they really trying to win this? With the squad they brought, the easy answer is no.

Mexico really isn't either with their squad. But their B teams are better than a lot of the A squads that were brought.

I wouldn't say Busio was our best player last night. Matt Turner is proving to be a damn good goalkeeper and probably has earned the #2 job backing up Steffen. Miles Robinson played great last night, him and Josh Sands have proven themselves to add valuable depth to the center back pool. And for not being a natural winger, Matthew Hoppe has been dangerous out wide. Jamaica resorted to just beating him up in the 2nd half last night because his speed was such a problem. The USA's B-/C+ team just beat 4 straight CONCACAF opponents and now has a Thursday date with the champions of the Asian confederation. No matter what happens in the semis/finals, this has been a productive Gold Cup with some younger, inexperienced players taking advantage of the opportunity provided. I'd like to see Eryk Williamson get the start vs. Qatar just to compare what he can do vs. Busio in that midfield. He has a lot of talent and deserves a chance to show his worth as well.
