COVID-19 - On the Ground
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
At a much lower rate.
The few breakthrough cases have fewer places to go if everyone is vaccinated.
We didn't have zero cases in mid June but numbers were low. The spike is from the unvaccinated.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Half or more of the infected vaccinated people are asymptomatic and they still aren't sure if those people can spread virus. So i suspect the number of breakthrough cases is much higher than reported because vaccinated asymptomatic people don't get tested and vaccinated people who have mild symptoms are also much less likely to go get tested because they may just think they have the sniffles.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Those laws exist and I don't hear you fighting it.
And it's worse than scanners public. Restaurants have to post (gasps) signs and posters as CONSTANT reminders.
Each poster just salt on the wounds of the rights of every restaurant employee.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
We have more people vaccinated now than we did in June.
We've discussed a little bit, but isn't this likely here to stay regardless of what % of our population is vaccinated? The vaccine prevents death. Our treatments continue to improve. Young people will likely be able to get vaccinated soon. This is the new flu. Yearly shots. Some will get them and some won't. Most of the deaths will be people who don't get vaccinated.

Even in random testing, they have fewer positive cases.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:07 amHalf or more of the infected vaccinated people are asymptomatic and they still aren't sure if those people can spread virus. More importantly they aren't putting hospitals at a threat of overcrowding, which is the biggest issue right now.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Except the flu doesn't cause schools to require masks, it doesn't cause 600 000 deaths in a little over a year, look at the numbers, we aren't even close to the place you're claiming, and it's because people won't get vaccinated.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:13 amWe have more people vaccinated now than we did in June.

If vaccinated people can still get and spread the virus then eradication is unlikely without worldwide prolonged lockdown. Everyone shelters in place for 3-4weeks. Everyone. No exceptions.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:18 amExcept the flu doesn't cause schools to require masks, it doesn't cause 600 000 deaths in a little over a year, look at the numbers, we aren't even close to the place you're claiming, and it's because people won't get vaccinated.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:13 amWe have more people vaccinated now than we did in June.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
This plus the states/counties/cities deciding to lift all of the mandates waaaay too early. This allowed the great unwashed to congregate and overcrowd most public places across the country. Shit show doesn't even begin to describe it. Now we're two weeks away from millions of unvaccinated young kids being in classrooms with no masks, no social distancing, and no real safety protocols in place. It's gonna be great...again.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:18 amExcept the flu doesn't cause schools to require masks, it doesn't cause 600 000 deaths in a little over a year, look at the numbers, we aren't even close to the place you're claiming, and it's because people won't get vaccinated.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:13 amWe have more people vaccinated now than we did in June.

Blame squarely falls at the feet of the unvaccinated and those politicians and media figures who continue to push misleading claims and outright lies. As somebody stated above, if I'm a retail business owner of any kind, I'd be livid at those folks.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Saw on the news the other day that some KC restaurants like Hamburger Mary's is only allowing people in their restaurants that can prove they have been vaccinated. More places need to do this and maybe those who refuse to get vaccinated will get the hint, i.e. you're not wanted nor welcome in our establishment.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
The goal doesn't have to de eradication. Certainly not right now. You just need to reduce the spread. There's a HUGE difference between an R0 of 0.8 and an R0 On 2.5 in terms of community spread.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:23 amIf vaccinated people can still get and spread the virus then eradication is unlikely without worldwide prolonged lockdown. If THE ONLY thing vaccines did was reduce the rate of transmission it would be a good thing.
What bizarre world are we living in where something has to be 100% or it's useless. Hand washing caused the rate of infant mortality to plummet...but Illy would been there to point out that some children still died as infants....guess there's no reason to wash hands, doc.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I wouldn't care if there were posters at the doors ( i mean, there are everywhere i go ) that ask the unvaccinated to wear masks. My issue would be a government enforcement of mandatory vaccines.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
we are at 70% with at least one shot. we ain't getting to 100%. that is a dumb@$$ pipe dream.
what % will satisfy you @$$holes so we don't have to listen to the same bull$#!t day in and day out. seriously.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I was talking about having to still wear masks a year and a half after covid's arrival being completely avoidable, not covid coming to America. I didn't think it was a particularly complex point that I made.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:43 amNo it wasn't. Vaccinated individuals are still contracting and spreading the virus. The ONLY way this was avoidable in this country is if the virus never left China where it originated (either naturally or in a lab).
Is the flu virus completely avoidable? We have vaccines for that virus too. And it's less contagious than covid.

Whatever percentage it takes for us to live our lives normally. When we don't have to wear masks to the grocery store and our kids don't have to wear masks to school. When businesses can operate to their potential and their capacity instead of reducing their potential income to avoid public health disasters.

Now you are going to see this on KansasCrimson.comshindig wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:36 am Saw on the news the other day that some KC restaurants like Hamburger Mary's is only allowing people in their restaurants that can prove they have been vaccinated. The unvaccinated have an excellent argument that it's ignorant to do as such.
A vaccinated person can still get and carry the virus.
An unvaccinated person may not get nor carry the virus.
So they are basically saying it's ok to let someone with the virus enter their restaurant as long as they are vaccinated - but they won't let someone in their restaurant who does NOT have the virus because they are not vaccinated?
That's some typical USA logic for you.

Ideally, 438%.
I think 4 and 3/8 doses for everyone would do it.

I certainly don't think the vaccine is useless.
Your strawmans don't work.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
The right to not wash hands is sacred. We were endowed by our creator to have feces covered hands if we so choose. The Gov't can't tell me otherwise. {Toby Keith, "Courtesy the Red, White and Blue" plays in the background}pdub wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:40 amI wouldn't care if there were posters at the doors ( i mean, there are everywhere i go ) that ask the unvaccinated to wear masks.
