MTV started when I was 20 years old. I hated it from the start. I still say some of the worst music ever recorded ended up playing on MTV on constant replay. I thank Geebus that disco was dead when MTV started.

My guess is no. Fans being cool or hot towards either one of them, I find them both enjoyable.
It's kind of like if someone were to ask me if Trey or Mayer is a better guitarist playing Dead music. I prefer Mayer but Trey was extremely good too.

I have a number of Holger Czukay (RIP) recordings. I was way into most things German--jazz through industrial noise (Einsturzende Neubauten)--from 1978 to about 85. It's pretty obscure but I have a large collection.
