Oh i understand. I just disagree. At this point people shouldn't need to be told. Common sense says that's the only way to truly end it. Otherwise just accept that it is out there, socially distance when possible, take personal responsibility for what kind of situations we want to put ourselves in, encourage everyone to get vaccinated, and get ourselves vaccinated yearly.
COVID-19 - On the Ground

i am fully vaccinated. why would i shelter in place.
70% of Americans have had at least one dose. why would Americans shelter in place.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Because vaccinated people are still contracting and spreading the virus.
And fwiw, i am not saying you're wrong for feeling comfortable out and about. I feel the same. But if the end goal is to not have covid in circulation then partial shutdowns and masks won't reduce spread enough to do anything more than slow it. Even if we get even more people to get vaccinated...some people are approaching 9months since their first shot...in another 6months or so those people are going to have to make the decision to get another shot, in addition to convincing the unvaccinated to get their first round of shots.
I am not sure where i stand yet as far as extreme lockdowns. But i don't like partial lockdowns where restaurants are closed but casinos are open because it's putting a bandaid on a boat leak. It slows the spread for sure, which is good because we don't want hospitals overflowing, but if it's over and over again with no meaningful progress in eradication of the virus then I just don't agree with that method as a long term solution. The numbers dip and then go right back up after lockdown ends.
Either this is so deadly that we need extreme worldwide lockdowns or it's not and we need to get to work on adjusting our way of lives how we see fit to avoid the virus. Each person has a different threshold for risk they're willing to accept. Some people aren't worried at all. Some people are terrified. Plan accordingly.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
it's time for the man to stop playing his games with our lives.
from the very tiniest local elections, to the biggest national elections. i will vote against any person that from this point forward, continues to favor mandates and shutdowns and closures. from my local school board to the governor to the president of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. No more playing games.
power to the people.

Again, I have not seen anyone state that the goal is the 100% eradication of COVID so I don't know see the point in continuing to propose a solution that is guaranteed to never happen to solve a question that isn't being asked.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 8:40 amBecause vaccinated people are still contracting and spreading the virus.

Probably a good time for the entire world to shelter in place for 3-4weeks. Everyone. In the entire world.

I think that Illy is just trying to make a point that it is impossible to eradicate without a world altering event that would never happen so we should just treat it like the flu and stopped worrying so much about it.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:42 amSo every person in the world should waste 3/4 weeks of our life?twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:36 pmYou tried that line already.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 5:32 pm

But you're okay with unvaccinated people having to lockdown and/or not be allowed places (due to governement orders) that YOU want to go to because that is what is most convenient for YOU. That's a stance i can't agree with.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:40 amAgain, I have not seen anyone state that the goal is the 100% eradication of COVID so I don't know see the point in continuing to propose a solution that is guaranteed to never happen to solve a question that isn't being asked.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 8:40 amBecause vaccinated people are still contracting and spreading the virus.

If you're worried about contracting the virus then it is your responsibility to protect yourself. The government should play a role, yes. But business owners have rights too.
If a business wants to only allow vaccinated people in their establishment i am 100% for it. Those are the places i will support and frequent.
If they don't care whether their customers are vaccinated or not because it's a risk they're willing to take then I 100% support your/our right to not go there (i certainly won't).
People have choices to make every day. You're either against the spread of the virus or not. It isn't okay for vaccinated people to spread the virus either. That's not how it works. Any spreading of the virus is bad.
Or get your yearly shots, spend your money at places who share your ideals/morals/beliefs, don't go places you feel are unsafe, and live your life accordingly.
Vaccinated people thinking the world needs to cater to them is ridiculous.
Unvaccinated people thinking the world needs to cater to them is even more ridiculous.
Make good choices.

Don't need a life altering event. Just one or two small pokes from a needle would get our hospitals and health care system back to operational.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I think we (the people who care or are worried) should absolutely worry about it. That's why we get our shots, wear masks, socially distance, and don't go places we think are unsafe.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:50 amI think that Illy is just trying to make a point that it is impossible to eradicate without a world altering event that would never happen so we should just treat it like the flu and stopped worrying so much about it.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:42 amSo every person in the world should waste 3/4 weeks of our life?
What we should stop doing is acting like unvaccinated people are responsible for protecting us. You're responsible for yourself.
Publicly owned spaces can and should require proof of vaccination. 100% good with that. I want that.
Privately owned spaces can and should require proof of vaccination. 100% good with that. I want that.
Privately owned spaces that do not require proof of vaccination will not get my business/money if i feel it is an unsafe environment.
Stop expecting someone to hold your hand. It's not someone else's responsibility to keep you safe. It's your own personal responsibility.

I think I know what you are trying to say and agree to a point. But, that's just not how any society operates. It's kind of like saying if you don't want to get hit by a dumbass driving 120 MPH on the wrong side of the road, then just don't drive.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:56 amStop expecting someone to hold your hand. The vast majority of hospitals are operational with available covid ICU beds if needed. Even in the larger first surge prior to vaccines very few ever ran out of space. Few if any people (in our country) died in the parking lot after being refused admittance for medical treatment.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:52 am Don't need a life altering event. 55%ish + of our population is almost 100% protected from needing to go to the hospital for covid treatment. 9 months ago that wasn't the case.

I don't know about rest of country, but it's a huge problem here in KC (and the rest of Missouri), thanks rural Missouri.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 10:01 amThe vast majority of hospitals are operational with available covid ICU beds if needed. Nobody is forced to drive.
Some are suggesting forced vaccinations. I just don't agree with that, and especially not for something that is almost 100% survivable for vaccinated individuals.

Cox in Springfield has something like 55 hospitalized from COVID, all unvaccinated. That's outrageous and infuriating when you think of all of the consequences.
I wouldn't trust myself to be a big enough person to allow that bullshit were I in charge of a hospital.
