If we have to go to 16 teams, then take the Cowboys (recruiting footprint), Eagles (Cowboy rival), BYU (they gotta start playing on Saturdays, tho') and maybe Colorado State.
Boom! SEC can suck it, and KU will still dominate in BBall.

Wasn't givin' you jazz, CnB.
Just liked Traddy's linked opinion. Seemed fun to let my imagination run wild.
To be fair, you still haven't poked any holes in my plan...

Re: Conference Realignment..?
For conference realignment reasons, this upcoming football season might be the most important one KU has had in my lifetime...they have to show tangible progress that leads to a win-or-two MORE than everyone is expecting them to get.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Having a good football team with great fan support this season wouldn't hurt, but I just highly doubt a B1G invite at this point will hinge at all on an extra win or two by the football team in 2021.

For the record, I don't think the B1G is happening; I was talking more about the overall picture.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I guess I'm just not sure what else KU would be chasing outside of B1G invite--they're sitting at the top of the same boat as the rest of the 8 if that doesn't happen.
I could see a stronger than expected football season being good from a national and media perception, but this will be done behind the scenes by people that know exactly what KU and KU football are.

KU is 3rd in revenue behind Texas and OU with a shit football program over last decade. They have MULTIPLE options on the table. It's different than every other program in the remaining 8.

With what is considered the worst football program over the last decade(+), the multiple options are probably the AAC, Mountain West, & a watered-down Big XII.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 10:19 am KU is 3rd in revenue behind Texas and OU with a shit football program over last decade. Maybe the best case scenario is that the Big XII adds a few new schools, KU shows a lot of progress/promise over the next few years (I know this is a stretch, but not unlike what has happened to ISU since Matt Campbell showed up) and then maybe they'll have enough ammo to go wherever it chooses (other than the SEC).
Re: Conference Realignment..?
i think an aac/BIG 12 merger is most likely.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I just think some are really overemphasizing football as it pertains to KU.
Even with Mangino's program, KU would not be in a ton better position from a conference realignment standpoint in 2021. Iowa State was mentioned. Obviously Oklahoma State is still in the Big 12. Two football programs that are miles ahead of KU's and have less tables with open seats than KU.
I think the preferable scenarios are 1. B1G (by a mile) 2. ACC for a few seasons.
After that, a PAC alliance might keep the program(s) relevant and that's as far down as it really goes. I just don't think a few years of football promise changes any of that, especially for the players in the B1G and ACC.

even a .500 fb team would basically be a gimme win against most B1G programs

KU certainly doesn't upset the football power balance of the B1G.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 10:54 amrightCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 10:43 am I just think some are really overemphasizing football as it pertains to KU.

Obviously, I doubt any B1G member is stoked about adding the worst P5 football program. I think it goes beyond wins and losses, though, and is more a question of value. And, unfortunately, KU FB's value just plain stinks right now. The silver lining is that there is a little bit of potential there, and the B1G knows it. Loyal fanbase and decent sized alumni base compared to several other P5 programs. The brand also helps. KU FB will never be Nebraska as far as football loyalty/viewership, but there is something to play with there.

Been quiet since mid last week. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Quiet is good. Was Texas and OU quiet for the last year? Sure were. No need to solicit yourselves to that extreme in public.
