Behind the scenes, a lot can be negotiated. Think of taking meetings with AMazon and floating ideas for a large Big West conference, for example, with nullification of the previous grant of rights in the Big 12 and PAC. I concentrate on the PAC because they locked themselves into a pretty horrible deal.

If it's not the B1G, it better be a merger of PAC12 and remaining Big12 schools, not just an agreement/affiliation to play each other in football and basketball. That would guarantee the Big8 would no longer be a Power conference.

Bingo. If no B1G, we need to keep the perception (and money) of being P4-worthy. That's ACC or a 16-team PAC. Scheduling alliances are just that and nothing more.

Not to mention, we've got to save ourselves from ourselves. Nothing about Big 12 leadership in the last generation would give me any confidence that a scheduling alliance would keep us at the big kids' table for more than a few years.

KU should run away from a PAC scheduling agreement as fast as possible

Five even dumber college football realignment ideas

By now, anyone who holds the (dis)honorable distinction of being a college football sicko has heard the sport's biggest news. It's already official that Big 12 co-rulers Texas and Oklahoma are headed to the SEC, while Northwestern having to label Kansas as a West Division rival in their press release seems to be an inevitable in the near future...

edit: the above don't qualify (according to the author) as dumb ideas

My point on the PAC is simply another possibility. Frankly, their low pay-outs are a threat to their keeping their core schools. The B1G is intrigued that KU's draw includes a lot of Colorado. We really have a regional school.

Whoa whoa what the????? We have ZERO options on the table. NADA. What is left of the pitiful 8 I would say both OSU and Iowa State in a lot better situation. West Virginia in a better spot and Baylor and TCU most likely slightly better spot.

The progress we have shown over the last decade in football is the kiss of death. There is no way in hell you could explain the last decade of futility. You try explaining the last ten years to someone and they going to shoot so many holes in you that you ain't walking out of that room.

Yeah a little to late for that I am afraid. I guess you missed it but we just hired our new coach. Some Division 3 wizard I believe which THE SUNSHINE BOYS were over the rainbow about. Vegas has us at
1.5 wins this year which is a sucker bet thinking we might get two wins. Right now projections are 1 win, year 2 2 wins year 3 3 wins year 4 4 wins. These projections could change but............just for the hell of it I looked at the schools in the Mountain West and yeah we are not beating them either.

Mike Vernon went on a KU podcast this week to break down his radio appearance and clear up what he's hearing. Here are some bullet points:

• Decided to accept to go on Carrington Harrison’s show, planned on going with the same old story: KU people are confident, still a lot of logistics to work out, Big 10 or ACC are looking pretty good, and Bill Self is involved

• Some people were acting weird that day. Within 10 minutes of the interview starting, got a text from someone he really trusts and has been dead on before and that message was “it’s going down and it’s going down soon”

• He has his sources, gets his info, verifies it across the board, then he informs the KU fan base. Decided to do this because of the lack of information and transparency from the Jeff Long era.

• Was what Vernon said a little reckless? Yeah probably. But the people that reported what Vernon said left out a lot of words and changed the meaning of what he said.

• Vernon’s sources were acting weird all day. Probably shouldn’t have said it yet because he was still working to verify all this. People he knows in Big 10 country the next morning confirmed what’s in the works but he still probably should have pumped the breaks.

• Got a lot of crap, mostly from anonymous K-State Twitter accounts. Should have stressed better that this is a very long process but KU is still set up well in the long term.

• Wishes he would have tweeted the main point of his message before he went on the radio, would have allowed him to hedge his words better. Normally tries to hear things from multiple sources before putting things out there.

• Tried to bring some heat and still stands by the general point of what he was trying to say which is that this looks really good for KU. But it got out of his control because people took bits and pieces of his words and put them together in a way that he didn’t say them. Probably got burned on the timeline more than anything else. Still doesn’t think he’s wrong about how this is going to happen. Things look really good for the Big 10, too. That conference is in a great position. But it will take a while.

• There’s a game of chicken going on right now. TV deals are complicated right now. KU would like a check from OU and Texas if they leave the Big 12 early to help cover their exit fees. But KU is set up nicely and his people around there are quietly confident.

I appreciate what Vernon is trying to do, but his explanation really just reinforces why I don't take his stuff as gospel.

None of what these 'sources' or 'insiders' report are gospel until Goff or Girod make it official. All of that stuff is just good for Twitter and message boards.

I mean, he's been pretty good with his stuff previously. He's just an excited fan and alum who is trying to provide for the regular joes and not just the BMD.

I get it. And I enjoy it. He clearly has a source. I think it is good to remember, though, that Vernon is just getting droplets. And Vernon knows how to disperse those droplets to get a following.

100% and he definitely got the juices flowing last week.
