Yeah, hard to say. I think they just started on the 3 Light residential tower downtown and heard they were going to start 4 Light this Fall, so who knows. But residential is probably the best bet right now. It seems everything they build from the Rivermarket to the Plaza fills up quick.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 12:46 pmAccording to friend in KC acquisition/development biz, COVID has not and is not slowing it down. What was occurring before COVID--people increasingly moving to the cities--who knows if that trend continues after.

They can't build residential fast enough.shindig wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:36 pmYeah, hard to say. Commercial is a different story. I don't know enough of the details, but I'd be looking to sue the crap out of Waddell & Reed's new parent company.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Yeah, surely the City has some clawback in their agreement with W&R. I'm guessing the new parent company is going to have to cover the subsidies the City provided and pay back the contractors until a tenant is found. I heard through the grapevine that Blue Cross Blue Shield might take the building over, but could just be a rumor.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:44 pmThey can't build residential fast enough.shindig wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 1:36 pmYeah, hard to say. I think in the next 2,000ish years a large portion (25%+) of the world will die from something. I wouldn't be shocked if we have gone largely extinct within the next 30,000 years. At least on this planet.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:43 amA friend of mine and I spoke at the beginning of all this. if anything, it should give even more justification for getting vaccinated and pressuring/convincing more people to do the same
i’ll be perfectly honest though, i told my wife more than a year ago that this thing could spiral out of control and kick humanity’s ass. now, i’m fairly well convinced that there is a limit to what covid can actually evolve into, but seeing the US and global response in this case gives me little comfort that the right lessons will be learned to better mitigate the next case (and make no mistake, there are more coming)
I laughed it off. "Spicy take, man."
The last 18 months has made me reconsider. I'm not sure I'd go with "handful of generations," but it is impossible to have any confidence right now that people are capable of the collective lift it's going to take on climate change.

Large portion die within 100 years.
30,000 years Extinct? Not technically, no.
Not really human anymore? Yes.

I think in the next 2,000ish years a large portion of our know human species will be relocated to another planet entirely.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 7:28 pmI think in the next 2,000ish years a large portion (25%+) of the world will die from something. I wouldn't be surprised if we as a species have largely raped this planet for the vast majority of the relevant, useable resources it has to give within that next 2,000 years.

Better get goin on the wormholes and figure out how to take advantage of the folding of space and time.....because i dont see Mars being the answet for large scale habitation. Unless youre looking for living in pods and not being able to move about outside your pod. If it comes to that ill be happy to be dead by then.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I dont think that's far fetched in 2000 years.
Computers will figure it out for us and our bodies will be largely bionic.

2,000 years ago we thought the sun orbited the earth and we had no accurate mapping of our entire planet. Now we can drive a remote controlled car around on the surface of Mars. I suspect that a lot will change over the next 2,000 years.TDub wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 9:26 pm Better get goin on the wormholes and figure out how to take advantage of the folding of space and time.....because i dont see Mars being the answet for large scale habitation. Oh i agree. But i wonder if it will move to "us" living mainly in a digital world via our "brains" living in some matrix style world where we all "exist" in some sort of server farm where our resource consumption is minimal as opposed to us figuring out how to endure galactic travel.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 9:21 am2,000 years ago we thought the sun orbited the earth and we had no accurate mapping of our entire planet. just take the blue pill

I dont know what that means....but so far everything works fine...no need for any blood flow pills.

Remember when Ted Cruz guaranteed us that covid protocols would magically go away if Biden won because this was all just a plot to get Donald Trump out of office?
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Lots of "what if's". I wish I could come back 2000 years from now and see it just as I wish I could go back 2000 years in the past to see what life was like back then.TDub wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 9:32 amOh i agree. no way in hell humans make it another 2000 years. too many misguided, fucked up priorities

jmo, but I think I would have liked all the lobster posts from this morning to stay. Locked, for sure, but for all to see.
