Plano has some story about buddies who work in AI…how’s it go?

Something like, two AI robots have 3 oranges a piece, and are programmed to try and negotiate/take the other’s oranges until one has all 6.

Within the first couple minutes, the AI starts cheating and trying to find ways beyond the programmed terms of the game to win.
Better than that. Within the 1st few minutes, one of the robots cheated.
Both robots started to be more aggressive in their tactics AND temperament.

The programmers started working toward taming their behaviors, and the AIs started circumventing the input.

Then, and this is where it gets really fucked up, the AIs start communicating in their own code, locking out the ability of the programmers to intervene.

By the time they shut power down, the room was a mass of shredded oranges and robot parts.

My buddy said he didn't sleep for a week, he was so shaken.

thanks for the reminder

saw a headline a few weeks ago about scientists in Dubai (i think) using drones and electrical charge to elicit rain from clouds by causing particles to aggregate into drops big enough that they wouldn’t evaporate before making landfall

meant to look into it more but it slipped my mind

kudos to them for trying, but in a sense they took water from a locale that would have otherwise gotten actual rain, naturally

put another way, they could probably do that in eastern colorado, but what impacts would it have on Kansas?
I see it as that there's no guarantee that the water would have ever touched the ground without this action. It could have remained in smaller particles and just evaporated due to the increased air temperature without ever turning into precipitation.

right

that’s why Dubai is a desert

i’m necessarily in disagreement, despite it being kinda ridiculous to turn the desert into something it isn’t, but i’m just curious what the downstream ramifications might be...particularly if this sort of action were to occur with any sort of regularity

I have a co-worker who refuses to get vaccinated.
Several reasons why including but not limited to her being brainwashed by another co-worker that the vaccine is nothing more than "poison" and contains aborted baby fetuses.
According to another co-worker, she claims it's her Priest who has "advised" her NOT to get vaccinated. I'm not sure it's true but if so, then she has a "valid" (I say bullshit) religious reason not be get vaccinated so she is "excused" by our company but may not physically be in the office.
She claims her Primary Care Physician has "advised" her TO get vaccinated ASAP.
She chooses to listen to and trust her Priest over her Primary Care Physician. Why?
I suppose she's making an ignorant ill-informed moral decision over a medical decision. Tough call there but what's not a tough call is that her Priest MAY be responsible for the spread of the virus, the physical health and well being of his congregants (in a negative way), - and for being a fucking asshole?

The issue is going to be people quitting. Many are short staffed now and can't really afford to loose people.
I saw some nurses who lost their jobs over not getting vaccinated protesting holding signs saying "we worked through the whole pandemic unvaccinated and now we are unemployed"

Just goes to show how stupid all this shit is

Also a little alarming or at least eye opening that Healthcare workers could work on the Frontline for over a year and be willing to lose their job over not wanting vaccinated

Also ironic that places like Florida and Texas have had the highest rates or citizen relocation since this all started. People are fleeing places like NY and California to get away from unnecessary regulations and mandates

Either way, easy solution.

The US would ban travel to and from Florida if it was another nation rather than a state

And if hospitals really are overcrowded/short staffed, why the fuck are they firing experienced staff during the middle of a supposed pandemic

Taxes play into it too. So does defunding police crime. People just want to escape failed liberal policies in general
