I know next to nothing about Italy--It is just my preference to travel internationally when less layers are required for lighter packing.

You seem to have no geographical restriction on this trip, so pretty obvious that you will find a great spot.

I've told this story, but one of my favorite ones is the honeymoon of my buddy who was (at the time) a Delta pilot. Of course he and his new wife could fly anywhere in the world for free, BUT it's subject to availability. You couldn't really book it.

So they showed up to Sky Harbor the morning after the wedding packed for anything; surf, ski, city, hiking, everything. Did several of them on the trip.
