Remy will be that guy.
But Self's been known to play two of those guys.
One of Remy's best assets in getting to the line. His ability to drive will be huge for our wing shooters. Last year we really didn't have that at all.

And who knows what we’ve got in JCL.

Dude’s got lots of D1 experience, including in this very conference, and is also like 32 years old

I don’t think it’s any coincidence Self went out and swapped a bunch of bigger wing types for a bunch of smaller on the ball types.
Thats because we had 1 PG (Harris) who can't shoot. Not some philosophy switch. We had 3 wings already (CB JW Och), wasn't much room for a TGF or Enaruna. They already proved incapable of beating out CB Och and Jalen for their minutes.

Self went out and got a few PGs because we desperately needed at least 1. Otherwise if Harris went down we'd have Och or CB at PG and that wouldn't be ideal.

Was CB or Och technically our "2" last year? Not that it matters much if any, just curious.

Considering how hesitant both were with the ball in their hands, pretty sure they were both 3s

And I’m curious if Och boosts his production by being more of a “3,” similar to junior Selden.

But I also dunno if there’s really much difference between the 2 and 3 spot any more

There probably isn't unless 1 of the guys is 6inches taller than the other.

I honestly dunno if that extra 6 inches is more significant, or better ball handling skills.

It's all a mystery with Och at this point. Just needs to figure it out. If he's the same type of dude we've had with him and our best offensive player, then my expectations for this team are way too high.

Mostly depends on who they are surrounded with. CB isn't a terrible ballhandler. Self even used him as the primary ballhandler for spot minutes in at least a few games last year (obviously roster forced that move, but it is worth noting).

But size absolutely matters. Especially for defense and rebounding.

Seems like Remy and Yesufu are both ball dominant guys. Remy is not a great outside shooter, and some question his shot selection. Hopefully Self and Co get some good time in with them this summer and he can be better than what he was at ASU (which obviously was not enough to get enough NBA buzz/interest to make that jump). Our best teams have mostly had NBA caliber PGs. Everyone needs to be better than they were last year for us to win a national title. From top to bottom.

Did they play on the same team in those season stats?

Or is that Selden and Och?

I guess CB isn’t a terrible ball handler, but I also think he hasn’t lived up to the point forward billing.

Dude missed a lot of chances to make plays last year. He’d drive with DMac rolling to the hoop for an easy lob, and CB wouldn’t even notice

He was billed as a point forward? Isn't he more of a 6'6 shooting guard?

And Dok spoiled us. DMac isn't Dok. You can't just throw it up for him like we could with Dok.

And fwiw that wasn't just CB. It was MG DH JW Och. All of them. None created for others in the lane very well.

Keep forgetting about this guy. That's a house money player. Whatever we get out of him, great. The D-2 kid is no different.

On a couple levels, I think the real issue is that he did notice.

Yeah, even though we’ve played against JCL, I’m not sure what to make of him. But whatever we get is gravy.

despite being D2, I’m high on Cam. He strikes me as Mitch but with shoulders and a jumper and ink, which is to say, a yuge upgrade from Mitch

I don't think that Mitch with a jumper is a huge upgrade, especially because of there are real doubts he can get a shot off at this level. But again, house money.

Cam looks good in the training videos I have seen. I won't put much stock in those, but he's smooth/skilled and can shoot. He's also a tank it looks like.

I think with JCL, the name Isaiah Moss immediately comes to mind. The difference will probably be that Moss only had to beat out a freshman Braun for minutes.
