I think it’ll benefit Dave to not feel like he has to be thee guy

and to have other guys making things happen around him

Perhaps so.

Marcus, for sure.

But Kieff was more the 5, and more of a banger/pick and pop than a driver, no?

Perhaps what I should ask is, how many college centers are also good enough handlers and move well enough to really drive that much?

We got abused by one in our 30 point exit last season.

Dave should be in his own locker room, with soft musac playing, dimly lit, and a pregame meal of turkey and no caffeine.

Everytime the coaches tell the other players to play hard, go after loose balls, get up for this game, it's a big opponent, lots of scouts in the stands, leave everything on the court.
McCormack needs to hear, make the smart play, don't rush, just like in practice, play within yourself, stay calm, take your time.
I only came to kick some ass...

We were on the ropes against a 13 seed whose C seemed to be able to get the ball to any spot on the court he wanted.

Jalen at the 5 was terrifying cause he's really not even a 4. A decent coach with a decent big man would exploit the hell outta that. Jalen did a good job trying to keep his guy off the block, and doing everything he can initially, but if his man got the ball on the block it was over.

Also, in 2021 a 5 man who can pull their guy out to the perimeter and take them off the dribble in not uncommon.
Agree all the way around.
Have we ever had a 5 man who can take a guy off the dribble?

And a proper 5 man, not just Jalen pinch hitting
Not really, but we've never had to rely on that much because other than a few select years we have had elite guards. But I suppose we could count Markieff and TRob? DJax had a sweet spin dribble dunk against Yale years ago iirc.

We gotta play those fools at least twice next season.

Yeah, but at the same time, that’s an exception.

We don’t encounter a lot of high-lotto-in-waiting centers through the course of the season

I am remembering back and TRob put the ball on the floor from the perimeter approximately 0 times without traveling first, haha.

Gonzagas bigs did that pretty well last year iirc.

Darrell might be in the discussion. Dude was a freak. Maybe the only guy who jumped center but also started at least once as a wingman?

He was capable, but at the same time, we’ve never exactly ran a lot of sets designed to get our center a look off a perimeter drive.

We don't encounter a lot of high lotto in waiting players period because there are only 10ish (depending on where you put your cutoff for high lotto) of them each year.

But you do in the ncaa tournament if you plan on winning 6 games.

I may be wrong but I don't recall a lot of time in 08 where Arthur was out there playing the 5 without DJax or Kaun ( or Cole! ) .

Arthur started a game as a 3 at KU?

I must have missed that one.

My guess is less than 20 total minutes that season of him at the 5. If that.

Even all lotto. 14 guys. Say, liberally, 5 of them are centers.

Spread across 64 tournament teams, of which we’d face no more than 6.

Long story short, I wouldn’t scheme the whole season’s gameplan on facing elite pro-potential 5s
