COVID-19 - On the Ground

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Yeah, wrong thread, but I’ve been seeing headlines about how the whole defund the police movement got thrown out in favor of more funding and doubling down on the same old policing practices.

NY cut their budget by about a billion dollars. Then coincidentally crime has skyrocketed since. Lots of people have left and aren't coming backMjl wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:16 amWhere did they defund the police?randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:04 am Taxes play into it too. Have you ever had to call the police for anything?randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:19 amNY cut their budget by about a billion dollars. Then coincidentally crime has skyrocketed since. If it was a crime, did they solve it or catch the perps or do anything beyond take a report?
Leads. Yeah, they got 4 more detectives working on it down at the crime lab. They got us working in shifts!
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
How did their crime rate increase compare to cities that did not reduce police funding (btw, the New York case was a cut in funds to all municipal services due to reduced tax revenues due to Covid)randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:19 amNY cut their budget by about a billion dollars. Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Lol you dont have an intelligent response so you resort to "poor randy"
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Isn’t the whole defund the police thing rooted in allocating that budget toward more constructive social programs?
Invest in communities, rather than criminalizing them

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Depends on who you ask, but it doesn't matter, because as long as it's labelled as "defund the police" it won't be politically feasible.

response to what?randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:24 amLol you dont have an intelligent response so you resort to "poor randy"
your moronic, unsubstantiated claims?
i feel bad for you, and all your inner turmoil.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Yeah, that messaging was awful.
But it also has the effect of quickly identifying those who grew up in a community in which they weren’t afraid of the police.
(Which is largely to say, a white community, but not entirely)

Back to covid. If our government genuinely cared about our citizens then the borders would become a top priority. We have a continual wave of illegal immigrants coming in, many of which have covid and are trying to get Healthcare for it. Not to mention the majority of illegal drugs, firearms, and human trafficking all come across our southern border

But this has always been mainly about power control and politics. Surely you all can see that to some degree?

despite short upticks that right-wingers like yourself like to use as hot-take talking points, illegal immigration continues to be on a downward trend...a 12% decrease from 2010-2019
related, during that same time frame undocumented immigrants from Mexico dropped by an estimated 1.9 million, while undocumented immigrants from everywhere else increased by half a million

As long as GOP dipshit politicians keep running to the border for staged photo ops, the soft headed nitwits will continue to scream that the immigrants are over running us.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:39 amthis is exactly why i feel sorry for yourandylahey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:29 am Back to covid.
