The point was that the also ran SWC teams are pretty good and would ruin the seasons of several SEC teams. And make the season that much harder. And bring nothing the SEC is looking for.hartjack8 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 9:19 pmWTF you talking about. Two years in a row we lost to Central Michigan I think. Two years in a row we lost to Coastal Carolina I think. Do you really believe any SEC team losing like us???????????Sparko wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:17 pm I would argue that, on top of the sparse population, the remainder Texas teams are good enough to ruin the seasons of a few SEC favorites. An 8-4 pod winning teams won't help any league and I highly doubt they would be invited to make the SEC into the SWC-reborn. They have hurt the Big 12. Playing good teams every week leads to losses and injuries. KU has suffered more than anyone else. In the old system, there were more winnable games and a break from the desperation of the round robin. In fact, the SEC is an easier conference than the Big 12 top to bottom. Vanderbilt, MU, Mississippi State, Florida, UK, Arkansas aren't that scary. Am tired as hell of the deep benches. Will be glad to see the gauntlet format gone.
You tired of deep benches?????? Sure no problem welcome to the Moutain West sunshine boy.

So...what's the buzz today?
Oh, and please don't feed the critters, Sparko. They leave droppings on the deck.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Don’t think this “alliance” news changes much. But things I THINK and not read/heard.
1. It’s probably not that feasible for this alliance.
2. Doesn’t stop KU from joining a conference. Still seems to be a big confidence in KU finding a new home.
3. Big 12 is dead. Slowly going to a P4 structure.

I don't think it means much at all for KU.
But as for the NCAA, it looks toast.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
i’ll be surprised if the alliance ends up being anything more than a “political” move to counter the SEC
there may be some notable fb games that result, but i don’t see a lot of scheduling changes happening as a result

I've read that the main takeaway here is CFB playoff spots and NIL stuff.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:23 am i’ll be surprised if the alliance ends up being anything more than a “political” move to counter the SEC

From the Athletic this morning:NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:34 amYeah meant to say that too with my Big 12 part.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:19 am I don't think it means much at all for KU.
But as for the NCAA, it looks toast.
There are many administrators in the Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC who believe in the collegiate model and want it to continue; even those who have enthusiastically embraced name, image and likeness reform don't want to see college football become an actual minor league system for the NFL with a draft, player salaries and the like. They worry that the SEC's aggression could lead to something like that.
[. . .]
College sports is in the midst of a transformative time, one that has seen the NCAA more weakened and fragmented than ever before, challenged by the courts and its membership alike. It faces questions regarding gender equity at its marquee championships and its fundamental commitment to penalizing those looking the other way when issues of sexual violence occur.
It is not nimble, and its lack of leadership was exposed repeatedly in the last 12 months, from NIL to pandemic health and safety protocols. The NCAA has planned a "constitutional convention" for November in an attempt to overhaul and modernize its entire governance model.
But the thrust of the Power 5's problem with the NCAA as it is currently constructed is that there is too much representation for lower levels of Division I in addition to Divisions II and III. The makeup of the constitutional convention reflects as much. Those groups don't face the same pressing issues as, say, Alabama and Ohio State. But they remain under the same slow-moving national governing body, at least for the time being.
This is partially why the SEC made the move it did to add Oklahoma and Texas. "We're certainly a part of the NCAA structure — and that's important — but our identity stands alone," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey told The Athletic this week. "We're going to be good participants. We also expect significant updating of the NCAA's role and model, and I think there are some hard conversations ahead."
Translation: The SEC can chart its own course moving forward.

The hypocrisy from the Big 12 is extremely rich though. They dismantled the SWC.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
SEC poaching Arkansas actually got the ball rolling. After that SWC couldn't get a good tv deal because all their schools were in Texas. At the time the Big8 "saved" those 4 schools.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:48 am The hypocrisy from the Big 12 is extremely rich though. They dismantled the SWC.

...“I think we’re really, really happy with the 12 that we have in the league. The opportunity to revisit that following Texas and Oklahoma has certainly presented itself. I am not actively poaching any school or convincing anyone to leave their existing conference, but I wouldn’t be doing my job if I wasn’t listening to schools that wanted to go in the Pac-12, and we’ve had a lot of them reach out. Probably all of the ones you would expect and several you’d be surprised by...We have taken initial meetings with everyone that has expressed an interest. We have a working group…who are together deciding on what to recommend… At the end of the day, they’ll make the decision about whether or not to offer admission to the Pac-12 to any other schools.”...
i wonder if part of the alliance talks included the subject of "rescuing" the remaining big brands from the Big 12

Re: Conference Realignment..?
So....the conclusion is that nobody has any idea and the guys saying kansas to big10 was imminent were just doing what they're supposed to by creating interest in what they say for clicks/shares?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
Never in my life saw so many fans who completely conflate their identity with their team's conference as the B1G. They have no idea and we have no idea where this ends. I do see conferences as cover for about five power teams. But the non tOSUs need to get over themselves.

So my guess is that the NCAA does stick around but it is to govern the small schools.

Who is this "alliance" of 41 schools they're talking about?

Current ACC, B1G, Pac--it's been in the news for a week or so.
And that news was pretty overblown. Reading that, it's a lot of nothing.
