When applied to species extinxtion? Lol not really. Fine think of it on a biological scale. We are seeing it withing human generations. Its obviously an issue. Much bigger than covid

And our government is looking at it from a future taxpayer point of view. But the global population is still on its exponential growth curve. Even through this pandemic. So our country could easily stabilize its population through immigration

Remember those guys that came back from winter break and they had the entire world's history and problems completely figured and solved because they took Western Civ 1 in the fall semester?

For some reason being reminded of that.

This isn't a one or the other scenario so it is completely irrelevant in the discussion of covid.

We get it, you don't think covid is important despite the massive global impact it has had so far.

None of us on this message board have all the answers. But its silly to not consider possibilities. And you can't deny the pieces fit. And im open to hearing other possibilities or explanations for why a lab with funding and scientists from multiple countries would be studying gain of function viruses?

covid is important. some of the stupid S#!t we are doing to combat it is not. for instance, wearing a mask outdoors, wearing a mask indoors if you are vaxxed, making the children wear a mask.

the stupid has far outweighed the unstupid.

Exactly. Covid isn't a sham. But most the tactics we have used and politicians demand are not effective or even worth doing. And a lot of businesses play along at least in name (most dont enforce or even give a shit) so that they can protect their image from cancel culture. The main thing it does do is piss people off and create further divide within our society.

It would be really interesting if covid19 happened 20 years ago before social media or the internet progressed to where it is now. It would have played out completely different

To say that this "would be studying gain of function viruses" is fact would be disingenuous. There is widespread disagreement as to whether that was happening. Seems like it is a very subjective topic that can lend itself to confirmation bias.

20 years ago our society wasn't nearly as soft or sensitive either. There are pros and cons to that of course. But in relation to covid I dont see a lot of benefit from how we are handling things

Yeah there is widespread disagreement. That's why I continually say "if this is true."

I'm not claiming it is true. I dont know. Neither does anyone posting on here. But a lot of the pieces fit. And if you take an honest glance at how everything has been handled it seems a lot more likely that it is true. But maybe its not

With your three points I 1) disagree in certain situations 2) disagree entirely and 3) vehemently disagree.

There are probably some situations where wearing a mask outside would be a good idea if the ventilation isn't good and people are too crowded together. Tell me to wear a mask outside while riding my bike and you can fuck off with that noise. Wearing a mask inside while vaxxed? AS we have seen, the vaccine does not prevent covid spread. It just reduces it. Masks reduce it further whether you are vaxxed or unvaxxed so I have zero problem continuing to wear one. And kids? They aren't vaxxinated and have little self control to keep socially distant or to keep their hands to themselves and out of their hands, mouths and noses. Having kids wear masks at school is common sense and not doing it is freaking dumb and irresponsible.

So those of you claiming I've gone "full lobster" lets just pump the brakes. Im just wanting you to honestly consider possibilities. Im not claiming to know all or trying to convince you.

The only thing I'm asking is to see other perspectives and give an honest inquiry into other possibilities. Remove your bias and just consider it

Man, you're rolling out all the crotchedly old white guy complaints today. Didn't think we'd see "this soft generation" mixed in to a discussion of a global pandemic yet here we are.

Masks are not that effective. Its 100 degrees. If you are in a situation where you are outside on a 100° day and think you or others should be wearing masks, you need to just stay home

Its true tho. There are benefits to a more sensitive accepting society. But there are certainly drawbacks to it as well. Ask bill self what he thinks about a team that is soft

You asked us to consider the reasons WHY something happened when we aren't even remotely sure that it happened.
